September 2009

[edit]

What's the goal here? This seems to be a hodgepodge of links in no particular order. -Uyvsdi (talk)00:29, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

... um, it's a collection of links to articles pertinent to the general subject of theCherokee people, sorted by more specific topic? Do you have a specific objection?DS (talk)14:40, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I created new headings and added links to increase the usefulness of this template. Where there are general articles of the subheading topic, they are listed first (e.g.Cherokee society is the main article for "Culture"), then others progress alphabetically, except "History," which has two general articles, then articles are listed more or less chronologically. "Tribes" and "Organizations" are simply listed alphabetically. -Uyvsdi (talk)01:16, 21 October 2009 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

[edit]

Significant progress has been made on connecting Cherokee related topics and articles through the nav point template. Additional edits to the template are being added every day. If anyone that sees this wants to collaborate on the project please discuss it here. --Tsistunagiska (talk)16:33, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cherokee, North Carolina

[edit]

CanCherokee, North Carolina be added to the template somehow?Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk)03:49, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Morriswa: I am thrilled to let you know that Cherokee is already included beside the list of towns right after the Qualla Boundary as it is a town within the Reservation and the capital of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. :) --Tsistunagiska (talk)13:39, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OF NOTE: Most of the town names, prior to removal, are included in one of three ways, either with their Cherokee name as spelled, as said or the English equivalent meaning. That's why you will see Titsohili used instead of Willstown. I am currently trying to add the Cherokee name and Syllabary within as many articles as I can if it is provided somewhere. --Tsistunagiska (talk)13:47, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I used to enjoy visiting Cherokee, North Carolina with my parents when i was younger. When I saw this template, a quick glance (even with using a find tool) didn't reveal it on the template. I can look again. Also, thank you for tagging me, since this template is not on my watchlist.Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk)18:39, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Morriswa: Of course! I love the interest in it. If you want to help develop it or collaborate on any of it please don't hesitate. Every article in the template is on my watchlist. I'm up over 250 now. My most recent trip to the area was 2018 when my brother and I drove, and even walked in many locations, the entire length of theNvnadaulatsvyi (Trail of Tears). It was an amazing and humbling experience. At one portion of the trail a guide led us down a gravel path and told us that hundreds if not thousands lined the road for months in that location while winter set in around them. No home to live in, no roof or walls to protect them. Possibly hundreds died in that location near Mantle Rock. Every one in our group walked the trail in silence. Very few had dry eyes.--Tsistunagiska (talk)19:10, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NAV

[edit]

CorbieVreccan: So the rules only apply to me...gotcha.WP:NAV states "Avoid repeating links to the same article within a template." It does not give allowance for size of template. In fact, it states that templates shouldn't be overly large. Such hypocrisy...whatever. I don't have time for childish games. When the admins here bend the rules to fit what they want but attack other editors who are just trying to improve Wikipedia, in good faith, it's no wonder they leave. Peace to you and be well --Tsistunagiska (talk)18:41, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, this template is replicating a category. It's so enormous, it becomes useless. Check outCategory:Cherokee tribe.Yuchitown (talk)17:23, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]
Yuchitown, Sorry for the late response to this as I removed it from my watch list. I just happen to stumble across an article that made it onto the template today and revisited this talk page. In the interest of keeping an open mind, as I have had an entire winter to rest and think about my involvement in this encyclopedia, I looked at the category you listed. It's not complete and misses a lot of articles that the template picks up. The template is able to be expanded and minimized and I agree that it is large but not close to the largest on Wikipedia. I find it to be very useful and have used it to navigate between articles on the Cherokee here on Wikipedia many times. To call the template useless is, at best, a mischaracterization of the hard work that went into building the template by many editors, not just myself. That's an observation, not of intent on your part but of evaluation of how others may feel. I would dare to say that the categories we have here are not fully doing the work that many intended them to do but would never call them useless. That's a harsh response to a very useful tool. --ARoseWolf21:14, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
