Dialects

[edit]

I don't know aboutObjective-C, but I'm pretty sure thatC++ cannot be considered as aC dialect. It is anotherlanguage.Urli mancati11:28, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think another title that dialects mightfeel better to all involved. I don't know ifdialect is quite right. I think that Java and JavaScript also derives fromC syntax. They look very similar. However, dialect makes it sound like they might be inter operable. Interestingly, someC code can be compiled as C++. I have no qualms with the current text but I can see how some people would.Bpringlemeir02:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

irrelevant links

[edit]
glibc · Dietlibc · uClibc · Newlib

What do these have to do with the C language itself? Nothing. I might as well put [insert some random library here]. Or [insert some random libc implementation]. –67.240.141.201 (talk)04:05, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Groovy

[edit]

I am not exactly sure should Groovy be in this template. It is a descendant of Java, but I am not sure does it have a similar C structure or is it just a programming language. Anyone who has expertise in this language please explain and add/remove accordingly, thanks. --Ramu50 (talk)08:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

delphi is derivative of pascal, and groovy is derivative of java --Enric Naval (talk)11:49, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I seem your point about Groovy, but I think Delphi should be on there since it is a descendant of C#.— Precedingunsigned comment added byRamu50 (talkcontribs) 22:25, 29 November 2008

What the heck are you talking about? Delphi is descended fromTurbo Pascal and was released in 1995. C# was first released in 2000. How can Delphi be a descendant of C#? As for Groovy, have you tried reading theWP article? It has a C/Java-like syntax, so if Java is a descendant of C, then Groovy is too.Letdorf (talk)23:05, 29 November 2008 (UTC).[reply]

What about image formats? (XBM/XPM)

[edit]

What do you people think about adding to this template the image formatsX BitMap andX PixMap, which take the form of C source files? Or is that kinda way-out-in-left-field?—Precedingunsigned comment added by98.65.201.207 (talk)15:43, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vala??!

[edit]

Vala is nonnotable. Some IP added it promotionally. It doesn't belong!Rursus dixit. (mbork3!)13:42, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

@Rursus: Vala is syntax similar to C#, therefore, it is true.NSInstance (talk)09:06, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ICC

[edit]

Is there a reasonICC is not listed under compilers? It is officially called the "Intel C++ Compiler", but it is a C compiler too. --Apoc2400 (talk)17:19, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Limbo

[edit]

I'm removingLimbo from the descendants as it's neither a direct descendant of C nor is its syntax significantly related nor is it a compiled language (we don't include Java either).
