The list ofdirectional antennas is getting rather large. A classification often used in antenna engineering is "aperture antennas", in which the radiating structure is defined by an aperture. This includeshorn antennas,parabolic antennas,slot antennas, I believephased arrays, and several other types. Yes, this classification is pants. All antennae have some sort of directivity, except for the utterly theoreticalisotropic radiator. So the first category is going to have a member of one forever, and the last one is going to continue to grow without limit.Aperture antennas is a good category. We could also havemonopole antennas and their derivatives split from dipoles and multi-element antennae. In other words, I favour splitting by form rather than radiation pattern or gain. If there were some more splits of categories along the lines of the latter, it would start to get very difficult to decide where some antennae belong - the gain of a Yagi, for instance, depends on the number of elements.SpinningSpark12:50, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
