Usage

When you create or find a new page within the scope ofWikiProject Birds please add any of the following to the top of its talk page:

Unused parameters may be omitted. This template automatically adds articles toCategory:WikiProject Birds articles.

Optional parameters

attention – set|attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
- This parameter populatesCategory:Birds articles needing attention.
class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, na (case-insensitive). See the project'squality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave|class= blank or omit the parameter.
importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project'simportance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave|importance= blank or omit the parameter.
listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of theDEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Charles Darwin, use|listas=Darwin, Charles so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the C's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please seeWikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
If the article is using{{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add|listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
needs-audio – set|needs-audio=yes to request that anaudio file(s) beincluded in the article toimprove its quality.
- This parameter populatesCategory:Wikipedia requested audio of animals.
needs-image – set|needs-image=yes to request that aphotograph,map,drawing,diagram,equation, or other image be added to the page. Leave blank or delete if not.
in: Used in conjunction with theneeds-image=yes parameter to place the image request into a specific location, such as a country. Leave blank or delete if not.
- Additionalin2 andin3 parameters are used in conjunction with theneeds-image=yes parameter and may be used to specify up to three location categories (such as for celebrities and other people who may frequent multiple county locations).
- This parameter populatesCategory:Wikipedia requested images of birds.
needs-map – set|needs-map=yes to request that arange map beincluded in the article toimprove its quality.
in: Used in conjunction with theneeds-map=yes parameter to place the image request into a specific location, such as a country. Leave blank or delete if not.
- Additionalin2 andin3 parameters are used in conjunction with theneeds-map=yes parameter and may be used to specify up to three location categories (such as for celebrities and other people who may frequent multiple county locations).
- This parameter populatesCategory:Wikipedia requested range maps for birds.

peer-review – set|peer-review=yes if the articleis currently undergoing apeer review, or to request that the peer review process for this page should be begun.
- This parameter populatesCategory:Requests for Birds peer review.
old-peer-review – set|old-peer-review=yes if the article has had apeer review which isnow archived.
- This parameter populatesCategory:Old requests for Birds peer review.
Poultry task force – set|Poultry task force=yes if the article is supported bythe Poultry task force.
- This parameter populatesCategory:Poultry task force articles.
- Poultry task force-importance (only used if|Poultry task force=yes is set; uses the same values as|importance=) – Importance rating withinthe Poultry task force
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory ofCategory:Poultry task force articles by importance.
category – set|category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Aliases

The parameter|needs-photo= is recognised as an alias for|needs-image=. If both|needs-image= and|needs-photo= are present,|needs-photo= is ignored.
