Travis Darelle "Teddy" Walton[1] (born July 30, 1992, inMemphis, Tennessee[2]) is an American record producer, songwriter and DJ. He began music production by creating songs with his older brother, June, which gained traction on SoundCloud.[3] Walton has produced for artists includingDrake,Kendrick Lamar,Chris Brown,Lil Yachty,Travis Scott,Bryson Tiller,ASAP Rocky,Nipsey Hussle,Future,Post Malone,Schoolboy Q,Freddie Gibbs,GoldLink,Maxo Kream,Vince Staples,ASAP Ferg, andBig K.R.I.T.

Tracks produced by Walton have won two Grammy Awards.[4][5][6][7]

Early life

Walton was born inMemphis, Tennessee and attended early years of high school inColumbia, Missouri, soon beginning production and composition of music inFL Studio after he downloaded the music-producing software mistakenly thinking it was avideo game.[8] He refined his sound by creating projects with his brother, rapper June.[9] Walton self-describes his sound as a fusion of influences fromThree 6 Mafia,Tame Impala andSWV[10] – a soulful and psychedelic blend he calls "urban epic".[11]

In 2012, Walton and June released their first project,EVOL, which gained traction online and attracted the attention ofASAP Yams.[12] In 2013, June and Walton followed up the project with the single "Big Pimpin" withBig K.R.I.T.[13] In 2014, they released Living Colour: Chapter 1,[14] followed by XXX - EP in 2015.

Music career

In 2015, Walton's firstmajor label placement came with a track offASAP Rocky's second studio albumAt. Long. Last. ASAP, "Electric Body" featuringSchoolboy Q.[15] The track was certified gold in the US[16] and peaked at number 80 on the USBillboard Hot 100 chart.[17]

In 2017, Walton producedKendrick Lamar's "Love" and did additional production on "God", from Lamar's fourth studio albumDamn.[18] The album debuted at number one on the USBillboard 200[19] and won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.[20] "Love" is certified 4× platinum[21] and "God" is certified gold in the US.[22] That same year, Walton producedGoldLink's "Crew",[23] which became 3× platinum.[24] Walton also producedYoung Dolph's "Pacific Ocean" and four tracks off ofBryson Tiller'sTrue to Self.[25]

In 2018, Walton produced "King's Dead" and "Redemption" off ofKendrick Lamar'sBlack Panther: The Album.[26] At the 61st Annual Grammys, "King's Dead" was nominated for Rap Song of The Year and won Lamar Rap Performance of The Year.[27] "King's Dead" also became 3× platinum in the US.[28] In the same year, Walton also producedPost Malone's "Spoil My Night" andJay Rock's "ES Tales".

In 2019, Walton produced "No Guidance" byChris Brown, withDrake, which became certified platinum in August 2019, less than 10 weeks after its release.[29] The song was nominated for Best R&B song at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.[30] It was later certified 5× platinum.[31] That same year, Walton also producedDJ Khaled's "Celebrate", withPost Malone andTravis Scott.[32]

In 2020, Walton was the lead composer for the original score forYOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, aHulu short-series hosted byCraig Robinson focussed on Black voices.[33] He also co-produced four tracks ofBig Sean'sDetroit 2 including "Wolves" withPost Malone and "Don Life" withLil Wayne.[34] That same year, Walton contributed additional production to "Wash Us in the Blood" byKanye West, featuringTravis Scott.[35] On his birthday, July 30, Walton premiered "No Love" withYoung Dolph.[36] It is the first single off his forthcoming albumMental Health. In September 2020, he produced "Franchise" forTravis Scott,Young Thug, andM.I.A., which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 100.[37] Walton also produced on "Dive" byKid Cudi and "Next To You" byBryson Tiller.[38]
