Teddy Buckner (July 16, 1909 inSherman, Texas[1] – September 22, 1994 inLos Angeles, California) was an American jazz trumpeter associated withDixieland music.[1]
Early in his career, Buckner played withSonny Clay.[1] He worked withBuck Clayton inShanghai in 1934,[1] and later worked withBenny Carter among others. From 1949 to 1954, Buckner worked inKid Ory's band, which was perhaps the closest to the style he preferred.[1] In the late 1950s, his work withSidney Bechet in France made him popular there but, before going to France, he recorded the soundtrack of the movieKing Creole withElvis Presley in 1958. From 1965 to 1981, he performed with his traditional Dixieland jazz band atDisneyland'sNew Orleans Square.[1]
In addition to this, he worked withblues musicianT-Bone Walker and did some acting. This included a credited role in the 1964 horror filmHush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, and an uncredited role inThey Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969). He playedcornet in a few of his film roles.
