Edward Bateson (2 July 1902 – second ¼ 1972[2]) was arugby union, professionalrugby league andfootballer, andcricketer of the 1920s and 1930s, playing representative level rugby union (RU) forYorkshire, and at club level forSkipton RFC as awing, club level rugby league (RL) forWakefield Trinity, as awing,[3] club levelassociation football forBlackburn Rovers, and representative level cricket forLancashire, he also participated atathletics,boxing andtennis.

Ted Bateson played on thewing inWakefield Trinity's 3–10 defeat byHuddersfield in the1926 Yorkshire Cup Final during the1926–27 season atHeadingley,Leeds on Wednesday 1 December 1926, the original match on Saturday 27 November 1926 was postponed due to fog.

Ted Bateson made his début forWakefield Trinity in the 8–3 victory overBatley on Saturday 19 December 1925.

Club records

Ted Bateson extended the 'most tries in a season' record for Wakefield Trinity with 26-tries scored in the1928–29 season, and 27-tries scored in the1929–30 season, this record was extended byFreddie Smart to 29-tries in the1931–32 season. Ted Bateson is twelfth onWakefield Trinity's all timetry scoring list.
