Tavleen Singh (born 1950) is an Indiancolumnist, politicalreporter and writer.

Biography

Singh was born inMussoorie in 1950 in aSikh family.[3] She studied atWelham Girls' School.[4] She did a short-term journalism course from the New Delhi Polytechnic in 1969. She graduated fromSt. Bede's College, Shimla.

She completed her education in India and started her career with a reporting job at theEvening Mail,Slough (England), where she worked and trained for two and a half years under the Westminster Press/Thompson training scheme.[citation needed]

Singh returned to India in 1974 to work withThe Statesman as areporter. She joinedThe Telegraph as aSpecial Correspondent in 1982. In 1985 and 1987 she was the South Asiacorrespondent of theSunday Times,London.

Subsequently, she became afreelancer and started writing forIndia Today andThe Indian Express.

In 1990, she began her stint with television by heading Plus Channel's Delhi bureau. Singh presented two video magazines calledPeople Plus andBusiness Plus. She has doneEk Din Ek Jeevan, a Hindi weekly programme forSTAR Plus.[when?]She is withThe Indian Express andThe Hitavada. She writes a weekly column on Sundays.[5] In 1988, she was honoured with theChameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Woman Mediaperson.[6]

Personal life

Singh has a son, writerAatish Taseer, with former Pakistani politicianSalman Taseer.[1][7][8]
