Tarah Gieger (born September 18, 1985) is aPuerto Rican female professionalmotocross racer.[1][2][3]
Gieger's parents moved toPuerto Rico fromFlorida, where they established asurf shop.[4][5] Gieger was born inAguadilla, Puerto Rico. She began practicing surfing, but switched tomotorcycles when she was 10 years old.[6] She began riding them in the mountains ofSan Sebastián where crowds gather to practice.[5]
In 2003, Gieger began racing professionally.[1][7] Gieger wonLoretta Lynn AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship titles in 2004, 2006, and 2007.[8] Also in 2007, she became the first female racer ever to compete in theMotocross des Nations.[3][7] In 2008, Gieger won the first women'ssupercross event at theX Games XIV.[1][2][7]
The following year, a broken wrist prevented Gieger from being among the medalists of theX Games. In March 2010, she joined theTroy Lee Design/Lucas Oil/Honda motocross racing team.[7] After that, she won the silver medal at the women's supercross event at the X Games for two years in a row (2010 and 2011).[9]
In 2013, Gieger finished fourth in the Ford Women's Enduro X Final at theX Games Barcelona.[10] That same year, she was photographed nude forESPN:The Magazine "Bodies We Want" photo shoot.[11]
Gieger, is the most decorated female athlete in X Games history.[12]
