Tanjong is a federal constituency inNortheast Penang Island District,Penang,Malaysia, that has been represented in theDewan Rakyat since 1959.

The federal constituency was created in the 1958 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under thefirst-past-the-post voting system.

At 6 km2, it is the smallest parliamentary constituency in Malaysia.[4]

Demographics

While this Malaysian parliamentary constituency has the third highest proportion of predominantlyChinese voters (behindBandar Kuching andKepong), Tanjong parliamentary area may be considered as the constituency area with the lowest proportion ofMalay-Muslim voters inPeninsular Malaysia where it forms only less than 4% of the overall voters in the parliamentary area.
