Tanintharyi Nature Reserve is astrict nature reserve inMyanmar'sTenasserim Hills, covering 1,699.99 km2 (656.37 sq mi).[1] In elevation, it ranges from at an elevation of 20–130 m (66–427 ft). Most of thetropical rain forest isevergreen, interspersed with somegrassland. The reserve provides habitat toAsian elephant (Elephas maximus) andGurney's pitta (Hydrornis gurneyi). It wasgazetted in 2005 for the maintenance of natural resources, scientific research and education of local people in surrounding communities.[2]
Wildlife recorded during acamera trap survey in 2002 includedbinturong (Arctictis binturong),large Indian civet (Viverra zibetha),large-spotted civet (Viverra megaspila),Asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus),banded linsang (Prionodon linsang),yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula) andleopard (Panthera pardus).[3][4]
