I thought I had that stated, my mistake. Revised, to:put a calculator into Exam Mode, which disables the execution of certain programs
I think I see where the misunderstanding is from. The?utm_source_chatgpt.com flag represents that ChatGPT found the source (like Google), not that it was AI-generated itself. The Wayback Machine confirms the source existed long before AI did.
I think the parts about hobbyism in the article could be moved to a separate section (similar to a "Legacy" section you'd find for a universally-acclaimed movie or video game) so they don't distract from the rest of the features -OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』17:37, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I could, but I wouldn't particularly like to do this for 2 reasons:
Hobbyism is very tied into this calculator in particular. Every section under "Software" would need to be duplicated under a Legacy header, except now with only hobbyist content. I think this would be confusing and contribute to a "too many headers, too little text" readability problem. It works fine as is, with each section covering in two seperate paragraphs both the official and the hobbyist contribution.
Also, I noticed that you cited the guidebook, which is really long. Please add specific pages (where applicable). You can undomy edit where I merged the duplicate links if it helps, and if you need my help converting the guidebook to sfn format, I'll be happy to do so :D -OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』18:09, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@OpalYosutebito: Sadly, I was only able to find one piece of other info on it; it was the first regional calculator in the TI-84 Plus series, However, while looking for more info on the Pocket, I found a list of equipment compatible with the TI-84 Plus; I have now added a whole new section titled Equipment. Check it out!OmegaAOLtalk?15:26, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @OpalYosutebito. Fleshed out sources, like you asked, and also replaced the TI-Connect features with a table in which I re-sourced all information from the official guidebook. It looks like the "Exam Mode" part was a remnant of the old article that I somehow missed.OmegaAOLtalk?20:45, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OpalYosutebito This is a good point actually, and I would like to do this but I can't actually find much information on the TI-84's "backstory" or early history, or development process. Texas Instruments is very secretive. All I can really add, possibly, is a condensed history of TI's graphing calculators as a whole, but it's kind of hard to tie all that to the TI-84.OmegaAOLtalk?09:42, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@OpalYosutebito: About TI-84 Plus development: there's nothing. This is because of two reasons:
Texas Instruments is very secretive.
This was 2003. The internet and discussion and leaks weren't that much of a thing yet.
it's not so much as "I can't find a good source" as much as "I can't find any source". I searched Google Groups' Usenet archive, old forums, etc. and there is no news, no community discussion, no forum posts on anything before the official launch.
I can talk about the TI-81 (the first graphing calculator by TI), the TI-83 Plus (its direct predecessor), but nothing on TI-84 Plus development, sorry.OmegaAOLtalk?18:40, 15 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fairly certain that the sources with titles like "Solution #####", where each # is a placeholder/example number, are customer service questions, but if I'm not mistaken, the responses are allowed to be cited if they're official/not made by other users (ie, developer responses), if that makes sense :) -OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』04:01, 15 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the source for the ViewScreen mentions something similar to a link port:The Presentation Link Adapter connects the student versions of the TI-84 Plus family to the ViewScreen panel using the calculator's USB port. -OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』21:07, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I didn't see that. It looks like there are special ViewScreen calculators with that extra port, but there is an also an adaptor that lets standard TI-84 Pluses use the screen... I'll add that piece of info in.OmegaAOLtalk?00:42, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
