If you look at this link:http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Sitgesyou will notice that the last paragraph is the exact opposite of what is presented directly on the Wikipedia site for Sitges. Which is correct?—The precedingunsigned comment was added by24.90.164.0 (talk)05:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
I'm surprised there's no mention of it being a top international destination for gay travellers and it having a big gay population. Gay tourism is a key factor in the local economy.Gymnophoria (talk)15:44, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to point at the fact that Sitges does not, in any way, mean "silos".The fact is that the name of the village comes from medieval Latin, appearing for the first time as 'Cigis'. Thus, the etimology of the name of the village has nothing to do with "silos". I removed the false etimology from the article.— Precedingunsigned comment added by77.231.173.72 (talk) 15:42, 23 June 2013 (UTC) Looks like "silos" is back, and uncited. Maybe it can get a citation this time.--173.222.1.145 (talk)17:25, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this article looks too much like an entry in a travellers guide and should be rethinked, as almost all sections are related to that. The only one not about yearly events or tourism information is the one about history, which is sparse and includes blatant errors like in the last line, which says that Miquel Forns is the 5th mayor of Sitges. This is impossible for a village already existing in the Roman era.The general tone is quite flippant, as when the article says that the village "was known as Ibiza in miniature" for which it offers no references or when it says that it "has been referred to as the Saint Tropez of Spain", with a link to a company blog about real estate that made this statement out of the blue and is quite irrelevant. This is one of the rare cases in which the English article is inferior to both Spanish and Catalan versions and should be reworked, which I would do in the next few days.
Sitges also hosts a fairly notable chess tournament, the Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival, which should probably be included in the article --jonas (talk)05:25, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
