Dedication of Thoroton's History of Nottinghamshire

[edit]

The piece as now written indicates that Dr. Thoroton dedicated his history of the county of Nottinghamshire to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Yet all accounts I've seen say that Thoroton dedicated the work to SirWilliam Dugdale,Norroy King of Arms, who according to popular history was responsible for urging Thoroton to finish the work Thoroton's father-in-law had begun. Is this not correct? Because if it is, then this entry needs to be rewritten to reflect that fact. See this excerpt on the subject fromA History of the College of Arms[1]. The way I read this page from Thoroton's work represents the dediction to the aforementioned Dugdale, or "My Worthy Friend," as Thoroton styles him in his tome.[2] Regards,MarmadukePercy (talk)03:17, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
