Something's odd with the format of this one. Most of the content looks like a scissors and paste job. And the full advertising of publishers details certainly looks out of place. Sorry, but not within my knowledge/capabilities to do anything aboutn this.Davidships (talk)23:32, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose per ZHNAME "when someone is commonly known by a Chinese name with given–surname order (e.g. Wen Ho Lee), this form should be used". The given-surname order is used by Western sources, including the English-language website of the article subject[1].DrKay (talk)08:58, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose. The Ngrams looks convincing, but we can't be certain that all hits are referring to this subject. Doing a web search for "Chen Qigang" mostly turned up sources with the order "Qigang Chen". It also looks like all the sources in the article use the latter order. I think the exception in ZHNAME#Ordering has been met here.Toadspike[Talk]10:50, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. In line withMOS:BIOEXCEPT, if an article subject has expressed a preference, then that preference should be respected. The article subject uses given name-surname order on his own personal English-language website and social media profiles, e.g.[2][3]. It is also the name he has chosen to use for official English-language purposes, e.g.[4]. Note that this man is a French citizen and French names are in given name-surname order. The ngram data is not overwhelming enough to override the subject's preference. Use the subject's preferred English-language common name. I also oppose on procedural grounds. Requested moves should not be repeated so soon after an identical proposal.DrKay (talk)10:11, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose in agreement with DrKay, both on procedural and substantive grounds.MOS:BIOEXCEPT provides an exception, although the guidance there does say a majority of RS should also adopt the change. However,WP:SPNC advises that for minor spelling variations, we usually follow the subject's usage in self-published sources. This specific name-order question is not covered but taken as a whole and considering the examples given, this is consistent with aminor variation as opposed to amajor change likeCat Stevens →Yusuf Islam. Furthermore,WP:ZHNAME states:when someone is commonly known by a Chinese name with given–surname order (e.g.Wen Ho Lee), this form should be used, and relevant redirects created from the surname–given ordering. The current form is used in numerous places includingLibrary of Congress,Spotify,Warner Classics Music,Strings Magazine, andLos Angeles Philharmonic (alsohere). Note that I am not making a (most) "common name" argument here. This is to show, rather, that there issufficient support in sources for this name order that it is natural and recognizable. --MYCETEAE 🍄🟫—talk22:42, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
