MEMW?

[edit]

Was reading a compilation of Creative computing magazine from the late 70s last night, and it reviewed several BASIC interpreters. One of these, among other odd features, used "MEMW" (not POKE) to write data to an address. should this be mentioned at all, and if so where?24.252.10.22802:06, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probably too obscure, since it doesn't seem to be a widespread convention. In case it's not obvious, the MEMW would stand for "memory write".86.131.103.13616:13, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

POKE with parentheses? WTF?

[edit]

I have never in my life seen a BASIC dialect where POKE had parantheses. I'm not sure about the "symmetry" argument, as PEEK is a function, not a command. They're called in different ways. AFAIK Commodore 64 BASIC, and other similar dialects, not only allow not using parantheses in POKE, but require it.JIP |Talk 04:22, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You might be right in this; I did a little Googling around as well as checking in my books on the subject, but found only one actual reference to a parentheses-based POKE command: Detached Solutions'"Command Post" TI-Basic Extensions---fairly esoteric, I must admit. Not even a BASIC dialect as such. :-) I guess we should change the article, if nobody shows up with evidence to the contrary. --Wernher 04:45, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
