Singing badger's reversion of changes

[edit]

I am really sorry that the singing badger considers my changes to be of no value.

Norn->fate. OK, it is not a big deal. I called Urd "fate" because it is a common translation for "norn".

Iduna. It seems extremely unlikely that a Stockholm club named Ydun should be given as "Iduna" especially when Iduna is a form of the Norse goddessIdun.

Thule appears in the works ofProcopius as a name for Scandinavia. That it is exclusively mythical is POV.

Yrsa was the mother ofRolf Krake and the wife ofAdils in Norse mythology. The singing badger could have bothered to go beyond Schmadel when verifying this fact.

Ingeborg was the woman in a famous love story withHjalmar in Norse mythology. Again the singing badger could have bothered to go beyond Schmadel when verifying this.

One of the reasons behind Wikipedia is that users can correct information when needed. Perhaps we should take this to rfc?--Wiglaf 07:12, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I should have extrapolated more. I think that your modifications have improved my additions. As for Ingeborg, yes you're right, but the mythical Ingeborg was reason why the name reappeared in modern times.--Wiglaf 06:55, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dembowska

[edit]

According to this list,349 Dembowska was named afterErcole Dembowski. How is it possible if Dembowska is a feminine version of the surname?Paweł "Ausir" Dembowski

The reason is that there was a tradition of giving asteroids 'feminine' names. So, even if they were named after a man, the name was 'feminized'. Other examples are54 Alexandra (after Alexander von Humboldt) and792 Metcalfia (afterJoel Hastings Metcalf). It was all a bit silly, and eventually, the convention faded away. The Singing Badger 22:00, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Endymion

[edit]

342 Endymion is sayingEndymion, which is a dab page. Is it meant to beEndymion (mythology)? --Kevin Ryde00:11, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many of them are from mythology, so I'd say that is the most likely choice.bogdan00:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

404 Arsinoe

[edit]

It says here that Arsinoe was Orestes mother, but she was in fact his nurse.Lily20 (talk)17:19, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

308 Polyxo

[edit]

This page calls Polyxo a Hyad, but the Polyxo page says that she was a naiad, the daughter of the river god Nilus (not Atlas). They must be two different mythological figures. Is it known which one this asteroid was named for?68.203.14.51 (talk)17:53, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

350 Ornamenta

[edit]
