I believe in this case for the Japanese name of Matsushima, as used in an official address {松島町}, that the final character would be pronounced as "-chou", not the "-machi". -Machi refers more to a village, hamlet, or sub-district of a larger town.

The -machi is consistent with the Japanese wikipedia, and my Miyagi maps.Neier22:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
