Cleanup

[edit]

This page needs serious work, removing the advertising sound sections, adding in the buy out of of Pierson Graphics, a history of Pierson, and the relationship between Mapsco and Rand McNally..EnsRedShirt12:20, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Closure of Mapsco?

[edit]

I've not been able to find any press announcements to point to, but it's possible that Mapsco is being impacted by the current economy. They apparently have asked everyone to leave the corporate office in Addison and that their stock is up for sale. The source is a friend's son who worked there until very recently. Since there is absolutely no official confirmation, this information shouldn't go on the article page. --Michael (talk)19:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does anybody know if they are shutting their doors for good? They seem to be closing a lot of stores lately? Does anybody have any info if they are in bankruptcy protection or something similar, thanks?--GIS Star (talk)02:50, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mapsco Today

[edit]

Mapsco's business is close to failure and bankruptcy/closure is a real possibility. At present Mapsco is in default of almost all it's creditors as the company has failed to pay vendors and numerous other businesses outstanding balances for the last several months. An approximate 40% workforce reduction and retail store closure(s) can't get the company in the black. In leiu of finding a company to purchase them out, which executives are working on, Mapsco's viability is unlikely.—Precedingunsigned comment added byGIS Star (talkcontribs)03:27, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is true. Mapsco has had a reduction in our workforce; however, we are no different than any other successful company in these unprecedented economic times. To stay strong in the market place, management must make difficult decisions to ensure the viability of the company. Other organizations have chosen to make changes slowly and are now suffering in bankruptcy. After making the needed changes Mapsco is flourishing. In the last three months, Mapsco has exceeded the forecast budget and is on pace to do it again in June. According to Dunn and Bradstreet, Mapsco has a much better than average risk rating. These figures certainly point to our ability to satisfy vendors and creditors. In March, Mapsco closed a retail store location in Frisco, Texas. The store, historically, underperformed in terms of revenue and the tough economy created a situation that it should be closed. Mapsco has recently renewed several multi-year lease options on other store locations, so our death has been wildly exaggerated. If you are looking for the most up-to-date map data, you will find it only in a Mapsco product.—Precedingunsigned comment added byMapsco Mgmt (talkcontribs)23:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Funny how the Mapsco corporate guys were bs'ing everbody as Mapsco evaporated.

Do you supply maps to AAA? How do you update your maps? I've got recent census tiger files but obviouslythese don't get updated too often. I've seen requests to have all land useactions made available on-line in real-time in an automated format socompanies can make electronic maps that are up-to-the-minute.Notably,

The reason I mention this is that the article comes off like a promotionalpiece. Personally I found it interesting but only because I'm curious tosee how traditional paper based companies are changing as technologymakes electronic versions of things available. I guess if you have aspecific strategy which has allowed you to flourish as competitorsget replaced with electronic versions of their information, that wouldbe notable.

Alternatively, while I'm not sure this satisfies any wiki criteria, I'm personally concerned about how dead companies get buried, creatingincorrect impressions in some investment situations. While success storiestend to be more instructive and interesting than companies thatgo under, a collection of histories on dead companies can be useful too.

However, if they have some notability I'm not sure what their fate todayor tomorrow means regarding their wiki article. It can be updatedas needed if the article currently meets other criteria like notability.I've seen many cases where start-up bands or athletes try to defend pagesbased on potential but usually that doesn't make notability.

Also, if I understand the sine bot, your name is probably considered promotionaland will get flagged at some point.
