TELUS no longer reports separate postpaid & prepaid numbers

[edit]

Beginning with the 2019 Quarterly reports TELUS no longer separates prepaid and postpaid subscriber information, opting to separate "mobile devices" and "mobile connected devices". How should we handle this? Currently I've specified that the postpaid and prepaid numbers are from Q4 2018, and the total number of subscribers are from 2019.

One way of dealing with this issue is to simply remove the prepaid and postpaid numbers from the TELUS section, and only display the total subscriber information.— Precedingunsigned comment added byTornedo500 (talkcontribs)09:46, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Roaming by Canadian Service Providers in Canada

[edit]

Due to rules imposed by the Canadian Government, contracts between service providers that forbid roaming with other Canadian service providers is banned. Because of this the list of roaming partners is out of date of early 2015. Most service providers are making extended service available by using other competitors' networks, choosing the competitor with the most coverage. e.g. most providers are using:

  • Telus/Bell (these two share towers) in BC, Alberta, the maritimes, and the territories
  • Sasktel in Saskatchewan
  • MTS/Rogers (these two share towers) in Manitoba,
  • TBayTel/Rogers (these two share towers) in Northern Ontario

Missing wireless providers

[edit]

why are Ontera and Keewaitinook Mobile not in the list of wireless service providers?— Precedingunsigned comment added by108.170.152.169 (talk)20:20, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Market Share

[edit]

What's the importance of having market share numbers? they are never up-to-date and reflect only the number of total subscribers. Propose to delete the column.Truther2012 (talk)15:06, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Market share numbers have been deletedTruther2012 (talk)19:15, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't the market share numbers updated? TELUS is the 2nd largest mobile carrier in Canada, and has been for some time. 8 million, 387 thousand vs Bell with 8 million, 235 thousand.— Precedingunsigned comment added byBeasley564 (talkcontribs)21:00, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FIDO

[edit]

Fido numbers should be included in Rogers' and not occupy a stand-alone line. No other subsidiary has its own line. Table as is is confusing.Truther2012 (talk) 20:08, 16 May 2013 (UTC)If you insist on having a separate line for Fido, we should re-order the providers.Truther2012 (talk)15:07, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fido line was re-integrated with Rogers since no objections was raisedTruther2012 (talk)19:41, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mobilicity and Public Mobile

[edit]

I dont think they should be removed just because we cant find most recent numbers. Appropriate notation would do.Truther2012 (talk)19:48, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Other Issues

[edit]

Where are the numbers from the table "Market share of Canadian mobile network operators in Q3 2012" coming from? They don't seem accurate and there is no reference. 20:40, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Where's Koodo on this list? --65.95.21.69 (talk)21:08, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please add frequency in table. --Dima1 (talk)11:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mobilcity has moved into Vancouver BC comopeting for Wind Mobile

Can we change the layout of this table? Koodo is Telus. Clearnet is Telus. Why does this table pretend they aren't? --

207.34.139.85 (talk)21:02, 19 December 2011 (UTC)Future companies, etc: The breaking news is four new non-MVNOs players are entering the national market, and Telus/Bell are builing a shared GMS network to replace their CDMA infrastructure. The articles I've found on this are:[reply]

Do document this here, I'm thinking these tables should be combined, with a "notes" column where notes like "not yet operational" can be made. Further, I think they should be grouped by effective networks; for example, Bell and Telus are sharing CDMA and GSM networks, effectively making them one carrier instead of two. Perhaps modifying the MVNO column to hold it's host network name would be helpful.

I'm making some of these changes now.. I appologize if this is against a standard I'm not familiar with. I welcome discussion.

--geoff_o (talk)22:07, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am quite sure that Telus does NOT actually support GSM (which is a 2G technology), but rather HSDPA.Thus, the tabe is *INCORRECT* in thus regard. Although I am pretty sure of this, I cannot find an authoratative source to prove it and there are tons of vague gossipy sites (some cited in the main article) that are very imprecise and inaccurate on the detailsof 2G and 3G protocols.

Nexus501 (talk)22:39, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Technology is one thing, frequency spectrum another... Canada does have the 850 spectrum in use. The table lists GSM, but this spectrum can be used for UMTS 5, GSM 850, or LTE band 5 (or CDMA band 0)... The table should clearly list this, as well as potentially coming spectrum such as the 700 band (to be auctioned Jan 2014) and 2.5 GHz (band 7?). Same thing with PCS - why not list this as a spectrum (1900 MHz) and then the technologies seperately (GSM PCS, UMTS band 2, LTE band 2, CDMA band 1, etc).— Precedingunsigned comment added by212.209.45.98 (talk)07:50, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

CWTA is considered the most reliable source for the number of subscribers data. Unfortunately, it seems to overlook smaller privately-owned players. In those cases I believe it is acceptable to use other published sources like press releases, merger applications, etc. If CWTA is available for a given player it should be used.Truther2012 (talk)18:14, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TNW Wireless

[edit]

I think they don't operate any longer, if they ever have.Ds77 (talk)08:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
