Alright. I'm bored enough to do this. Hopefully/likely, (thanks to the power of elvanse 40mg, which i was caught lacking last month) this will NOT take a month to complete. From first glance, I can say that the article needs copyediting but judging by its content very much appears to be almost on point. Comments pending below.
Also, speaking of hip hop artists making rock albums, you can (but are not obliged to) review Kid Cudi'sSpeedin' Bullet 2 Heaven if you're interested (lmao).

- Hahaha, no worries if this takes long -- thank you for reviewing this!! I have been meaning to get around to one of your submissions at some point. This was one of my first articles so I am not surprised about the copy editing work that needs to be done.Locust member (talk)21:44, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member Anyway, I'm gonna put the article review on hold until things are fixed. //Chchcheckit (talk)18:58, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Everything should be addressed!Locust member (talk)01:29, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member Hi! it looks great; i have copyedited a few things/got a few things to comment on:
- 2021-2022 stuff: I was referring to thisBillboard source, based on this quote:"Yachty couldn’t wait to put it out, and says he turned it in “a long time ago. I think it was just label sh-t and trying to figure out the right time to release it.” For Coach K, it was imperative to have the physical product ready on release date, given that Yachty had made “an experience” of an album. And lately, most pressing plants have an average turnaround time of six to eight months. Fans, however, were impatient. On Christmas, one month before Let’s Start Here would arrive, the album leaked online." So at least like six-eight months before Jan 2023. Anyway, i've added that in.
- I'm happy with the way "Poland" is presented. Interesting note inVariety, however; Yatchy resisted calls to put the song on LST as he didn't think the song fit on the album:"[P]eople were like, 'You gotta put it on the album.' But I was like, it doesn’t fit! Just because it’s a hit record doesn’t mean it makes sense anywhere on this record. I was so focused on making my Black 'Dark Side of the Moon.' "
- 3rd paragraph in Composition/Overview needs some CE'ing; but is almost there. here'sanother hypothetical idea from me idk
- Billboard:Dark Side inspired Yatchy to use three female vocalists ("Taking inspiration from Dark Side, Yachty relied on three women’s voices throughout the album, enlisting Fousheé, Justine Skye and Diana Gordon."
- I'll get to other stuff in a moment or two. we've almost
lost vision finished //Chchcheckit (talk)15:32, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]- Done all of these. Thank you for the composition paragraph!!Locust member (talk)16:03, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member yo! had 1 more look, one last thing for prose that needs improvement: Lyrics. i feel like this can be done better instead of using one student newspaper source, as i have found in several other sources mention about themes and personality, listed below for you to use as a springboard: if not lyrics, talk themes!! (see below) //Chchcheckit (talk)18:28, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Prose
- As mentioned above, I have a couple suggestions regarding copyediting (currently pending, gimme a second):
- Merge Background and recording, with some paragraphs moved about (below)
- Could the line "In October 2021, he appeared on a remix of Tame Impala's song "Breathe Deeper" from the latter's The Slow Rush (2020) deluxe box set. Craig Jenkins of Vulture said the song "hits a few of the markers [Let's Start Here] visits"." go somewhere in the composition in terms of musical parallels? (As in, comparing Yatchys prior output, including this, to LSH)
Done
- Text from "His 2022 single "Poland" [...]" to "cancelled the promotion due to the leaks" should go under release and promotion since it concerns the rollout.
Partly done Poland doesn't affect the album's rollout since it isn't a part of the album. It was released before the album came out so it should be in background, but I moved the leak part.
Y I'm happy with this.
- Text from "Lil Yachty grew up listening to different types of music" to "it was too obvious of a title" should be moved to Composition; it helps explain Yatchy's intentions surrounding the record as well as its influences
Done
- The remaining paragraphs should be merged into a single "Background and recording" paragraph.
Done
- "The album is primarily psychedelic rock, psychedelic soul, and funk, a departure from Lil Yachty's signature trap sound." Based on what you've got in the composition overview, i'd assume it'd be written assignature "bubblegum trap" sound.
Done per your suggested lead.
- Lead:Lil Yachty was unhappy about where he was musically and wanted to be remembered and respected as an artist. andHe was inspired to create an album that made people take him seriously as an artist. kinda say the same thing; can you combine this line?
- Changed per your suggested lead.
- If this is of any help, I devised mymy own idea for the article lead.
- Yes, this is a major help, thank you!! I changed it to pretty much the same thing; though, I left out the executive producer part since there were more than just SadPony (I added more credits in personnel)
- Random observations from me:
- Recording dates: NPR reports start year as 2021, whilst Billboard implies album was done by 2022 (given its leak).
- Added; I'm not sure what Billboard source you were referring to so I added in an XXL source that confirms the 2022 leak.
- Billboard. "Let’s Start Here collaborator SADPONY saw “Poland” as a temperature check that proved “people are going to like this Yachty." (or basically; that they;d like the album's direction?)
Done
- Lyrics:
- Exclaim! (In both music and lyrics, there's a sense of unselfconscious exploration"
- allmusic, notes personality and feelings."While obviously an enormous, intentional departure from past styles, it's this open personality that connects Yachty's indie psych songs to the best of his mumble rap past. [...] the feelings explored throughout Let's Start Here. are largely tender and often vulnerable" also notes"Lil Yachty's honest self-inspection"
- Hiphopdx:"Engaging with suicidal thoughts, experiences of anti-blackness, and heartbreak, Let’s Start Here. projects Yachty’s inner monologue out into the world."
- rolling stone:"Maturation is a central theme of the album."
- stereogum:"it is formatted as a Pink Floyd-like album, with lyrics about consciousness and the subconscious"
i'm not necessarily saying you quote em as is, but hopefully, you get the gist/idea(?) should you choose to accept it. yaya. //Chchcheckit (talk)18:23, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member alternatively i can just do this to speed things up. //Chchcheckit (talk)16:26, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- If you would like to - I would greatly appreciate it!! Sorry for responding late.Locust member (talk)23:40, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member I've made an attempt. if you're happy with it i'll leave it to you to copyedit them and adjust the lead (which i haven't changed)Chchcheckit (talk)16:26, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Otherwise: spot checks wise im pretty confident in this to pass once you're done. might do 1 or 2 more but yeah.Chchcheckit (talk)16:39, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- It looks really good; thank you so much for doing this 4 me! I adjusted the lead to match it.Locust member (talk)00:56, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Locust member Great! I'm happy with prose NPOV and spotchecking. I did findone other source that i feel's worth a look and you can add to the article if you want, but i'm gonna leave this as further reading.
- otherwise, congrats once again! you did it. //Chchcheckit (talk)01:52, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Spotchecks
Lead
FixedAfter receiving middling reviews towards his previous album Lil Boat 3 (2020), Lil Yachty was unhappy about where he was musically and wanted to be remembered and respected as an artist.WP:SYNTH. The sentence implies the album was partially borne as a response/reaction to the mixed reviews of LB3, when this is not the case. Whilst it appears Yatchy was unhappy with his direction at the time and wanted to go beyond that, I could not find a source where he states LB3's mixed reviews affected him/led to the album per se.- Changed per your suggested lead.
FixedHe was also inspired by a variety of musicians, including Pink Floyd and their 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, which many critics said Let's Start Here drew comparisons to. Composition notes the DSOTM comparisons to "The Black Seminole", not the album in general.- Changed per your suggested lead.
Background
YHe [Yatchy] originally described his music as "bubblegum trap", but has since denounced the phrase verified, though you can probably just work with the oneBillboard reference and remove the other one (Vice)

Composition
YThe opening track of Let's Start Here is "The Black Seminole", a near-seven-minute[34] synth-funk[24] track that was compared to Pink Floyd[34][41] and Funkadelic's Maggot Brain (1971).[24] The track begins with guitar chords and beating drums[21] which then transitions to Gordon's "wailing" vocals over a wall of drums[42] and a hard rock guitar riff that comes to a rapturous finish.[25] Using vocal solos,[34] Lil Yachty compares himself to an industry outcast[22] and its title is a reference to the Afro-Seminole people.[31] According to Hudson, the track contains "interstellar" arpeggiators, "epic drum fills, and wailing guitar solos".[34] Jenkins said the song is "an attempt to jam every idea housed in Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon into a single seven-minute performance."[40] Jo Kendall of Prog said the track "seems to sum up the whole of The Dark Side of the Moon in one piece".[39] Hudson wrote that the influence of The Dark Side of the Moon "becomes extremely apparent" on the track.[34] all passes. i removed 1 exclaim! ref bc it was already supported in allmusic
Broad
- pending copyediting stuff. but otherwise it seems good.
Stable
- With the exception of a IP user's paragraph getting removed for lack of sources on Feb 14, album appears to be mostly stable since February 1 2025. Passed.
NPOV
Copyvio
- Earwig Copyvio passes: highest is 29.6% (prog)
- Images: Cover is an AI-generated photo with public domain rationale, and pink floyd promo is also public domain with rationale; no issues. PF caption is relevant to musical comparisons and inspirations.
