In the second sentence -- "Before playing for the titans, he played for the Atlanta Falcons for ten seasons" -- change "titans" to "Titans" to reflect the proper noun status of the team's name.Sliptoad (talk)00:28, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1.Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, andunderstandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.
  • brought him up along with his brother as his father left – I'm pretty sure commas beforealong and afterbrother
  • Jones finished the regular season with 58 receptions, 924 yards, and four touchdowns. – This sentence (which is in the second paragraph of the 2008 section) needs to be removed as it was just said 3 sentences before
  • Preceding the 2009 football season, Jones was voted to the All-SEC Coaches' Football Team (first team), one of only four players to be voted such unanimously along with Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, Tennessee safety Eric Berry, and LSU offensive lineman Ciron Black. – this information needs to be put next to where this info is first mentioned in the first sentence of the second paragraph in the 2008 section.
  • Between refernces 59 and 60 there is a space
  • and third in catches behind Green and Greg Little of the Cleveland Browns, – Put a period after Browns instead of a comma
  • In the season finale, against the New Orleans Saints, – I think the comma after finale is not needed
  • Jones had nine receptions for 101-yards but the Falcons lost by a score of 15–10 – comma beforebut
  • against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, – commas aroundthe Philadelphia Eagles are not needed
  • I fixed all of these. I removed the sentence about the All-SEC Coaches, as the reference was link rotted and I could not find any archives or other reliable sources. At the same time, that team and the team mentioned in the 2008 section aren't the same team. It was a preseason team made just before the 2009 season, so I wasn't sure if it should have been included in the 2008 section anyway.NSNW (talk)23:56, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1b. it complies with theManual of Style guidelines forlead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, andlist incorporation.
  • Julio Jones was born on February 8, 1989, as Quintorris Lopez “Julio” Jones in Foley, Alabama, USA – according toMOS:USA , do not ever use USA instead choose US or U.S. I personnelly think you don't even need to mention the USA.
  • number 27th overall pick to the sixth overall pick – be consistent on whether you are spelling out the number or not
  • 115-yards in the Falcons 16–13 loss, his first game going over the century mark. – Just say over the 100 yard mark as some people might not understand whatthe century mark means
  • The one sentence paragraphs at the top of sections don't need to be their own paragraph, but combined with another
  • I fixed all of these except for the one about the draft picks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the MOS all numbers from 1-10 are supposed to be spelled out, and anything over ten should be written with numbers. I'm not sure if anything changes when its "seventh", or "27th", but I thought it was better to be safe then sorry and kept it like that.NSNW (talk)00:00, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2.Verifiable withno original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance withthe layout style guideline.
2b.reliable sources arecited inline. All content thatcould reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
  • what makesBlogging Dirty,StatMuse,At Sports,Crimson Tide Zone on Youtube,SOG Sports,Touchdown Alabama,Spark.Adobe.com, andthespun.com, reliable
  • I fixed or removed all the sources except forStatMuse, andCrimson Tide Zone on Youtube.StatMuse is similar toProFootballReference, as it keeps sports records of the four major american sports leagues, I don't see any reason to believe it's unreliable. The Youtube video is by the "Crimson Tide Zone", a channel made by the Alabama Crimson Tide sports program, therefore I believe it's reliable, but in the end it's your opinion.NSNW (talk)00:56, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2c. it containsno original research.
  • There needs to be sources for the first seven awards he received (in the awards and honors section)
  • Spotchecks for refs 4, 5, 22, 53, 81, 97, 109, 139, 157, 175, 188, 203, 213, 239, 246, 268, and 288 are good, but 42 doesn't seem to say Julio was on SEC Coaches' All-Freshman Team
2d. it contains nocopyright violations orplagiarism.
  • There is a 64.1% possibility of a copyvio with this website playersbio.com Trim that some.
  • Unfortunately, I cannot find the reference anywhere in the article, I'm besides myself on how this is possible but on my end there aren't any references with the website "playersbio.com"NSNW (talk)02:21, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • hmm it seems after all the changes it says there is now only 32.9% which is good. You can see it at the copyvio detector.com
3.Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses themain aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (seesummary style).
4.Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.

Stop Changing Edit

[edit]

Stop changing the edit from one of the greatest wide-recivers of all time to one of the greatest wide recievers of the 2010’s. I added a source where he was ranked among the greatest of all-time, and this is objectevly known, so I don’t understand why someone keeps changing it back.108.35.26.152 (talk)23:09, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He must widely be considered one of the greatest for us to include such a statement, a single source won't do it. Also, speaking from what I've heard and seen, he's definitely not considered as such unless you stretch it out to top 10. Top 10 usually aren't labelled as "one of the greatest", and this type of declaration is usually for people in the discussion for being the greatest, such as Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, and Calvin Johnson.Hey man im josh (talk)23:16, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I won’t argue over this, agree with the top 10 thing (I personally have him at 8 or 9) but if a guy like Cris Carter has that distinction Julio Jones should too, I would say they are regarded about equal all time108.35.26.152 (talk)23:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not arguing with you either, I'm telling you what's required in order to add the statement that you want to. Fine numerous sources which widely state he's one of the greatest of all time. PS. It may also be relevant that Cris Carter has almost twice as many touchdowns (130) as Julio does (66).Hey man im josh (talk)23:33, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Julio doesn't even have 1,000. The NFL wasn't invented 10 years ago. Feels undue to say he's one of the greatest, but it needs sources regardless.~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk)23:44, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greatest of his generation

[edit]

Hey @Left guide, I noticedthis edit you made, changing the text in the lead toHe is widely regarded as the greatest receiver of his generation. – This is a change I disagree with, as many might regard first-ballotHall of FamerCalvin Johnson as the greatest of their generation (I personally do). Sources include:

  • ESPN...he was the dominant receiver of his generation.
  • NFL.com – Ranked #8 on the list of top 10 WRs all time, Julio not included
  • Bleacher Report...as one of the best receivers of his generation.
  • USA TodayThe Lions’ pettiness back in 2016 burned a bridge with the greatest wide receiver of his generation.
  • ESPN – Ranking the top 25 players since 2000, in which they ranked Calvin Johnson #6, but did not include Julio.
  • Fox Sports – List of 10 best WRs of all time, Julio not included but Johnson included at #5
  • NFL.com – Article ranking Johnson the second best WR of all time
  • USA Today – Top 10 WRs all time, includes Johnson at #7, no mention of Julio
  • NFL.com – Johnson was a finalist for theNFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, whereas Julio was not
  • Pro Football Network — Top 10 WR list which includes Johnson but not Julio
  • Detroit Free Press – Refers to him as generational

It's not cut and dry that Julio is the best of his generation, and there's tons of sources out there that support him not being that. This is why, from my perspective, it's important to revert back to the previous phrasing ofHe is regarded as one of the greatest receivers of the 2010s., which is unquestionably accurate, less controversial, and more neutral.Hey man im josh (talk)15:37, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also pinging @Red Director and @Axhme01 for input, as they've both recently made changes to the lead involving the "greatest" sentence.Hey man im josh (talk)15:41, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh: Thanks for starting this thread. The sources I supplied directly support the claim being made. I was mainly doing this to help out after seeing the AN report to hopefully ease and resolve the tensions on the edit-warring. I'll self-revert as a courtesy since you've challenged it, but I'm not really interested in engaging in a long debate or discussion about this, so maybe open an RfC or solicitWT:NFL for wider input to reach consensus since it seems to be controversial.Left guide (talk)16:00, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is amazing that we are still spending time on this lol. Stats backup the 2010s claim. Being considered an all-time or generational receiver is an opinion at best and the stats certainly do not back those up. Just my thoughts.Red Director (talk)16:07, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here are the sources that triggered this discussion with quotes:"Julio Jones is widely considered the greatest wideout of his generation" and"Jones is widely considered the best wide receiver of his generation".Left guide (talk)16:18, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So, I ran aStatMuse from 2010-2024 (covers all of Julio's career). He does lead in receiving yards, but lacks the receptions and touchdown catches. He is definetly 'among' the best of the generation, which his career does encapsulate the defination of a generation. You cannot definitively state that he is the 'best'. AB, Hopkins, AJ Green, Evans, Kelce, and Fitzgerald all have claims in statistical areas.Red Director (talk)16:34, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Right, and there's sources that also say the same thing about Calvin Johnson. Hence, from my perspective, why it makes sense to say "one of", instead of getting into debates about who was technically the greatest. As Red Director mentions, there's different aspects to what defines someone as the best of their generation, but just to add, the situations they're in, the help that they had, and how they elevated those around them are also additional things to consider that into such a conversation. It's why it makes it near impossible from my perspective to state one player is the greatest of their generation, let alone the greatest in just about any context.Hey man im josh (talk)16:39, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, also, the second source claims that Jones is first in yards per game, which wasjust barely true at the time, but they've since dropped tofifth in yards per game, below Johnson and fellow 2010s wide receiverAntonio BrownHey man im josh (talk)18:31, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said above last year, Jones doesn't even have 1,000 catches in the pass-happy modern NFL.Antonio Brown had four AP first-team All-Pros and Jones had two. Jones was also not a unanimous selection for theNFL 2010s All-Decade Team. There were eight unanimous players on that team but none of the four receivers were unanimous. So I don't think it's correct to indisputably state in wiki-voice that's he's the "greatest" receiver of his generation.~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk)18:14, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
