Split request from Buchanan (band) – creation of Josh Simons article

[edit]

This draft was created in response to the split request first raised on theBuchanan (band) article on 21 August 2025.The purpose of this page is to provide a dedicated article for Josh Simons, whose career and biography extend beyond the scope of the band.

Much of the material reused here was previously part ofBuchanan (band). Once this article is approved and moved to mainspace, that overlapping content should be removed from the band article to avoid duplication, in line with the original split request.Park.pound (talk)21:45, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Scope clarification

[edit]

Thanks for moving the draft. The subject is indeed a musician but is also a technology entrepreneur and the current CEO of ASX-listed Vinyl Group Ltd. The article covers both his music career and his later work as a founder and executive. Once the draft is reviewed and accepted, an uninvolved editor may consider whether a title such asJosh Simons (entrepreneur) orJosh Simons (musician and entrepreneur) would better reflect the article’s full scope. This note is simply to help future reviewers understand the intended coverage.Park.pound (talk)11:19, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was:not moved. This isn't how we rename BLP perMOS:PEACOCK andWP:ENTREPRENEUR. Businessman is the norm here.(closed by non-admin page mover)CNC (talk)20:50, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Josh Simons (businessman) → ? – The current title uses "(businessman)" as a disambiguator, but reliable sources and the subject’s public profile describe him primarily as a technology entrepreneur and music executive. The earlier draft (Draft:Josh Simons (entrepreneur)) was created under that name, and talk-page history shows prior consensus that "(entrepreneur)" better captures the full scope of his work in music and technology. This change aligns withWP:PRECISION andWP:NATURALDIS, clarifying the subject’s notability domain without bias.Park.pound (talk)13:50, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Supporting statement: Publications such as *The Australian Financial Review*, *Music Business Worldwide*, *The Music Network* and *Variety Australia* refer to Josh Simons as a technology entrepreneur, music-tech founder or chief executive. The article covers both his music career and leadership of ASX-listed Vinyl Group Ltd (VNL) and Vampr, so “entrepreneur” is the most accurate and natural disambiguator. This aligns with the original split fromBuchanan (band) where editors anticipated a move under “(entrepreneur)”.Park.pound (talk)13:50, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. We don't use "entrepreneur" as a disambiguator. It's a peacock term that essentially means "I'm in business, but I'm an innovator, not a run-of-the-mill businessperson, and I think I'm something a bit special". "Businessman" or "businesswoman" is a perfectly good disambiguator for anyone who is involved in business or commerce. Publications often use "entrepreneur" because they think it sounds good, but we're an encyclopaedia and we don't use promotional language. --Necrothesp (talk)14:51, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly oppose using "entrepreneur", if that is the suggestion. SeeWP:ENTREPRENEUR. Wikipedia should use objective terms and avoid puffery. — BarrelProof (talk)14:53, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. To address the concern about “entrepreneur” as a disambiguator, I would like to revise the proposal so that the article is retitled **Josh Simons (executive)** instead. This is a neutral description of the subject’s role as CEO of an ASX-listed company while still a notable music creator and is consistent with how similar biographies are titled. Please process the request on that basis.

We don't use "executive" either. We use "businessman"! I fail to see the problem. He's in business. He's a businessman. --Necrothesp (talk)12:14, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I opened this request to complete the original split from Buchanan and to separate the musician and businessperson from the band article. My intention is simply to follow through on that earlier consensus and to reflect the full scope of the subject’s work, which extends beyond a narrow reading of “businessman”. I am happy for the closer to determine the most appropriate neutral title that captures his roles in both technology and music.Park.pound (talk)21:04, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
