Why the rather weasley "omits" in the un-sourced comment "his CV omits a stint as Literature tutor"? The reference to his previous "jobs" come from interviews, not actual comprehensive CVs, and as far as I can tell Rankin has mentioned his attempt to do a PhD on Muriel Spark fairly frequently and this would involve the tutoring role.—Precedingunsigned comment added by86.159.133.77 (talk)19:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mention is made of Ian Rankin's honorary doctorates, but on television yesterday I saw him discussing his PhD studies with a former tutor. Did he gain a PhD?Millbanks (talk)08:02, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As part of my rolling upgrade of articles on Scottish authors (I've looked atIain Banks,Irvine Welsh andGeorge MacDonald Fraser so far), I plan to start articles on the individual Ian Rankin books. Anyone feel like lending a hand? --Guinnog11:28, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dead Souls must have mysteriously disappeared then! I've resurrected a skeleton version and I'll try a full version when I've finished reading it.twitter09:36, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you're right! I'm not sure what happened there. Originally I clicked the link from the list of novels to a 'this page doesn't exist' page. Somehow an additional space crept in between the ( and 1999. Weird (Sterling effort by the way)twitter09:59, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Totally re-jigged theTartan Noir page - of interest since Rankin is one of the key figures in Tartan NoirEdofedinburgh14:55, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't shake the feeling this page should have some mention of theBBC Four dramaReichenbach Falls. I'm just not sure where it should be or what it should say.81.145.242.51 (talk)23:42, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Image:IanRankin.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used underfair use but there is noexplanation or rationale as to why its use inthis Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to theboilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent withfair use.
Please go tothe image description page and edit it to include afair use rationale. Using one of the templates atWikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described oncriteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at theMedia copyright questions page. Thank you.

Be aware that not all the external links work. A few of them return errors if accessed (404 or forbidden).FleurForsyte (talk)20:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rankin wrote a number of short stories in the beginning of his career. I don't think they have been collected somewhere.Shouldn't this been mentioned? And shouldn't we try to put a list together?--Epivaas (talk)16:08, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article mentions that 4 novels were televised starring John Hannah. It seems to me that the more recent (and more numerous) dramatisations starring Ken Stott should also be mentioned here.David ORourke (talk)11:49, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
J.K. Rowling is Rankin's neighbor.http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2009/9/4/ian-rankin-says-jk-rowling-writing-family-trees-and-working-on-scottish-book—Precedingunsigned comment added bySiddharth9200 (talk •contribs)01:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst it is clearly equally as correct to describe Rankin as either Scottish or British it is completely inaccurate to state nationality in the infobox as being Scotish, because Scottish nationality does not exist.

Ian Rankin recently indicates that Rebus would have voted "No" in the 2014 referendum[1], but has the author ever expressed his own personal opinion on the issue?Culloty82 (talk)08:27, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
