What is this stuff?Ijustreadbooks (talk)19:48, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty obvious - it's the total amount of NFL titles won by franchise. Did you not understand that or did you have a different question?Ckruschke (talk)15:58, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]

Article breakup

This article should ideally, i think, be broken up into

Purple players

[edit]

This section should explain what the term PURPLE PLAYER means or it should be renamed. As it is the word PURPLE does not appear anywhere in the section.1archie99 (talk)23:37, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it was vandalism. It was supposed to be "Black players", but I guess a vandal must've changed it.ZappaOMati00:04, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rock Island Independents

[edit]

The map 'Cities that hosted NFL teams in the 1920s and 1930s' does not include Rock Island, home of founding team, The Independents. Also nowhere in the article is mentioned the first game, at Douglas Park in Rock Island. Seems strange an article about the history of the league wouldn't mention its first game, its inaugural event.JiggyWittit (talk) 23:43, 15 January 2017‎ UTC

Odd that its not on the map. Must be a typo of whoever made it.
As far as the first game goes, no mention is made at all of the first game and the Independents cannot clearly claim the first all-NFL game as described on their own Wiki page.
Yours -Ckruschke (talk)20:22, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]
As I noted on the file's page, only teams played more than 10 NFL games are included in the map. I updated the caption to reflect this.Orser67 (talk)21:23, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why the arbitrary cutoff? Is there a source that uses this criteria? If not, it should either be changed to reflectall cities that had a franchise in the 1920s and 30s, or it should be removed.Lizard (talk)21:27, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. The graphic was produced by the editor on the editor's own time and clearly shows the criteria that he used in producing it. Just because it doesn't fit your POV and clear affinity for the the Rock Island team doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the graphic.Ckruschke (talk)15:16, 18 January 2017 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]
"clear affinity for the Rock Island team"? I couldn't care less. What I do care about is that we refrain fromoriginal research. If there aren't reliable sources that use this cutoff, then we shouldn't either. Why 10 games? Why not five? Eight? What makes 10 the magic number?Lizard (talk)15:53, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for putting in your opinion,Lizard. Any cutoff point would be "arbitrary". As I said above, feel free to redo the graphic with any criteria you see fit.Ckruschke (talk)19:10, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]
sound logic. similarly, why does the article not mention the first nfl game (independents vs a non-nfl mn team), or the first all-nfl game? ignoring the rock island game at douglas park just because it wasn't an all-nfl game seems arbitrary as well. it would seem to me that an article about the history of the nfl should actually discuss both of these hugely important milestones. it is silly to omit these events. ps sorry if i'm not posting this correct. i'm unversed here.— Precedingunsigned comment added byJiggyWittit (talkcontribs)01:29, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why the article doesn't mention either of the games you list. Although Wikipedia has many authors so no one is the arbiter of any specific page, my guess is that since there is no specific proof one way or another, they left off any mention. However, you could add this content if you like as long as it was referenced and you list any possible contender for "first NFL" and "first all-NFL" game. Well referenced adds are always welcome!Ckruschke (talk)19:10, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]

Birth of a new league

[edit]

https://operations.nfl.com/learn-the-game/nfl-basics/team-histories/national-football-conference/east/new-york-giants/

The Giants’ legal name is “The New York Football Giants” to distinguish them from the New York Giants baseball team, which played in New York from 1885-1957 before moving to San Francisco.

The team never changed its name and is still officially and legally "The New York Football Giants." Colloquially referred to as "The New York Giants."67.247.60.147 (talk)03:14, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
