First Gaza War

[edit]

I propose adding "First Gaza War" as an alternative name for this conflict. Ihad added it, with supporting references, but was reverted bySlatersteven. I didn't think this would have needed consensus before being added. It's a minor addition, it's properly-referenced (and there are many other references that could be added), and the name is used more often recently to distinguish this war from the other Gaza wars. –Asarlaí(talk)10:22, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do any RS call it this?Slatersteven (talk)10:25, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? I added three RS's in my edit. –Asarlaí(talk)10:27, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but it does not alter the fact, this should not have been done without consensus.Slatersteven (talk)10:34, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't notice the hidden message when making my edit. I should've looked more carefully.
Aside from that, do you oppose "First Gaza War" being in the articlelike this as an alternative name? –Asarlaí(talk)13:00, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I just happen to think the rules apply to everyone, even if I agree with them.Slatersteven (talk)13:15, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm unsure about adding the First Gaza war to the first sentence givenJean-Pierre Filiu, an eminent scholar on theIsrael-Gaza conflict, considers it to be the 10th conflict/war over Gaza[1]. I'd propose something like "The conflict is sometimes called the "First Gaza war", while other scholars consider it the 10th round of the Israel-Gaza conflict."VR(Pleaseping on reply)18:26, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Table

[edit]

@Onceinawhile, do you have any feedback on the table I just added?[2]VR(Pleaseping on reply)18:21, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Vice regent: the table is excellent. Really very valuable.Onceinawhile (talk)22:15, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

User:TheThomanski, this article has generated 70 talk pages during its lifetime. In those pages, you can find 18 distinct discussions about the article title, involving 100s of editors. Of those 18 discussions, 12 are formal RMs. The most recent one is here[3] which hadWP:SNOW consensus tonot rename the article to2008–2009 Gaza War. According toWP:RM, if there is any reason to suspect that a page movemight be controversial, you are supposed to use an RM. Given the extraordinary amount of debate and discussion about this article title, I have reverted the undiscussed page move. Also note the move broke a lot of sub-pages, so any move will require work post-move to cleanup. --GreenC04:09, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
