Neutrality Issue

[edit]

I feel that many segments of this article are written like a company mission statement. The section on preorders and how much it costs, the special deals offered? Please. Someone evaluate please. --Aceya (talk)16:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, Biasia, I'm guessing you're an employee of EB games?--203.201.73.154 (talk)16:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made sure most disputable information have resonable references will add more detailed info within the next 5-7 days.Feel free to add and contribute as long as its consistant with wiki guidelines... i.e no ads for the company and no POV. we just want facts. cheersBiasia (talk)14:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:EB Games logo.png

[edit]

The imageImage:EB Games logo.png is used in this article under a claim offair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets therequirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have anexplanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is anon-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Inappropriate content

[edit]

I don't think it is appropriate to include allegations of bullying in this article. These sort of claims occur all the time. Until the outcome of a court case is determined it should not be mentioned. Even then what has one incident at one of many stores got to do with the company? Its unfortunate but not notable. -Shiftchange (talk)20:31, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The unfortunate bullying allegations arenotable as they are documented by multipleverifyable, reliable sources and it is written here with aneutral point of view according to theWikipedia:Policies and guidelines.Prhartcom (talk)14:35, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mentioning the allegations is definitely appropriate. Particularly as it still seems to be happening in some stores.2001:8003:15C0:501:25EA:395A:A27F:CC15 (talk)10:56, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The articles cited name an individual in a defamatory manner. Is this in line with the Wikipedia guidelines on Libel/Defamation -Lobstronormus (talk)

Rolled back content

[edit]

The following wasposted to the talk page of an editor who had rolled back content that had been recently added to this article; the post was moved here.

Hi! I noticed you rolled back a lot of changes made to the EB Games Australia Wikipedia Page due to a lack of sources.

Most of this information was obtained directly from the relevant EB Games departments (i.e I contacted their event team about EB Expo etc) and I was wondering how to properly cite this, given that this information is not published anywhere digitally.

I can 100% confirm this information is correct, as it has been sourced directly from the company themselves.— Precedingunsigned comment added byLobstronormus (talkcontribs)05:21, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lobstronormus, I have restored some of the recently added content you added, edited it to be from aneutral point of view, added a "citation needed" tag to some of this new and some previously existing content where necessary, spent a few hours researchingverifyable, reliable sources, and added cited references where possible. I also restored the content you had deleted regarding the unfortunate allegations of bullying, of which my research uncovered several news sources proving itsnotability, that I added cited references for also. I don't doubt that what you say is 100% correct, but on Wikipedia we can't write about what we know, we can only write about what others have written in reliable sources. Seehere for more information.
I regret to observe that yours appears to be asingle-purpose account, used only to improve this article, indicating you may have aconflict of interest, as an editor's motivation should be to improve the encyclopedia, not to improve the description of the subject of the article. If so, you are allowed to make only uncontroversial edits to this article if you first declare your COI, but you should request that other editors make more substantial edits for you by posting a message to this talk page. More information about this can be foundhere. Let me know if I can help or if I can answer any questions.Prhartcom (talk)14:35, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merger discussion

[edit]

I believe this should be merged with EB Games main page because a lot of information crosses over, thoughts?Icaldonta (talk)20:29, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Given how significantly longer EB Games remained in operation outside of America, I think it's independently notable. At the very least, there was not much of an argument given as to why it should be merged besides vague statements of overlapping.ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ ()02:29, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have just removed lots of content in the article that failedWP:NOTPROMO - this has helped bring things into perspective.
We have quite large sections here that talk about the history of EB Games prior to moving to Australia, this is an overlap. This detail is already established atEB Games.
We have another quite large section about EB Games Expo, EB Games Expo has its own page, so this is also an overlap. It goes into quite a lot of detail that is already established atEB Games Expo.
We have a large space about ZiNG Pop Culture - I think ZiNG could warrant being its own article as it is its own retail face, you cannot tell these stores are related to EB Games just by looking.
We have 401 words about EB World loyalty program (there could be a debate on whether this is promotional content).
After the above is factored out of our equation, we have quite a modest article that consists of the Gamesman takeover, workplace allegations, COVID-19 affects and then a big paragraph about 2020s business strategy that could be condensed greatly.
I think all of the above are discussed in their own articles, or would fit comfortably under List of current operations in the EB Games article.
Please seeHMV as an example of this being done.Icaldonta (talk)18:40, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Following up on myself, I have gone ahead and massively condensed down the article, there was a lot of information that was unsourced, whilst other information overexplained itself and became even more confusing.
I believe this article can now fit quite comfortably under the 'current operations' section atEB Games.
I see there was a previous attempt at having Zing Pop Culture as its own page, but it failed, I still think that can go to EB Games.Icaldonta (talk)21:59, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support While EB Games Australia is more notable arguably, it's not so much so that there needs to be a separate page for it. There's clearly a lot of overlap, and readers would benefit from having this information in one article. -Cukie Gherkin (talk)03:52, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Withdrawing my support for this discussion, as the editor is inappropriately using it as justification to close a discussion they have a conflict of interest in. Consensus is not a matter of numbers; you need to get more people to participate in the discussion, not simply say "My side has more, therefore I win."WP:CONSENSUS says "Consensus on Wikipedia does not require unanimity (which is ideal but rarely achievable), nor is it the result of a vote." A discussion with 100% support for one side can and has had results that are opposite of what people supported, because the rationale for why they supported it was not strong. You have a conflict of interest, and in a 2-1 consensus, you aredefinitely not allowed to just close a discussion. -Cukie Gherkin (talk)18:17, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
