Some inconsistency may lurk in description in those articles.

1. The articleKandula talks about KingDuttagamani (101 - 77 BC) who mountedKandula the elephant during the wars that led to the unification ofSri Lanka.
2. The article onDutthagamani (king ofCeylon, orSri Lanka, from 101 to 77 BC) says, "He had to fight his brother,Saddha Tissa, to gain his crown," and "He marched north and killed the Tamil leaderElara."
3. Sri Lanka recites defender kings of the Sinhara nation against Tamil invasion, one of whom isDutugemunu, but gives no account of his reign years.
4. King Dutugemunu (161-137 BC) callsDutugemunu a king who defeated a Tamil kingElara, and "united the Sinhalese for the first time." His reign is 161-137 BC. Also described is that as a princeDutugemunu fought and beat his younger brotherTissa to haveKandula the elephant, and as the king he mountedKandula in battle with the Tamil army.
5. Daily Mirror Online : Opinion says, "the great king Duttagamani, better known as Dutugemunu."
6. Unfortunately not so readable as a whole,DUTUGEMUNU EPISODE RE-EXAMINED includes a passage "whether the Dutthagamani's war is an isolated event in history, we find that it antedates the reign of Duttagamani at least by one generation."
7. Here is an English translation of a few chapters ofMahavamsa (the Great Chronicle of Sri Lanka), which may or not serve for solving our problem.

There are recent TV programs (NatGeo, Discovery) that dispute incidents and figures likeThe Exodus,Noah's Ark,David,Goliath andAbraham and many moreBible stories and figures happened or existed. These science based programs mention that there are no other evidence apart from theBible.

Similarly apart fromMahavamsa, is there any other item that indicate thatElara (monarch) is a foreign king ? He may have been born and brought up in Sri Lanka. In fact everything that is mentioned in theMahavamsa should be checked and verified as it is written by few people possibly to promote their own political and religious interest.

I guess as times passes, the technology develops, Sri Lanka and India become richer, people become wiser and not-narrow minded, it is possible that one day truth will come out on all that is mentioned in theMahavamsa.

Can a comment be added to wikipedia article on the basis that is inMahavamsa ?
