Needs more sources

[edit]

This article needs more sources, particularly RS that are not just another version of Sister Dianna's testimony. There need to be secondary assessments and analysis, such as news accounts by RS, particularly given her accusations of direct American personnel involvement in the events. State terrorism in Guatemala is well-documented, but, according to the article, she also has made specific allegations that do not appear to have been confirmed.Parkwells (talk)16:09, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Sources

[edit]

The John W. Sherman book is described as an introductory text on Latin American history; it is not a specialized book about Guatemala. The editor who used it did not have the correct title or provide a page cite, which does not contribute to confidence in its use for such an important cite - suggesting Cokie Roberts had a conflict of interest because of her brother's company having a lobbying contract with the Guatemalan government. Needs a citation page to be complete. Suggests someone was trying to do OR.Parkwells (talk)17:48, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly, there were outright errors in use of Ratner's clear article about "Justice & the Generals". The Guatemalan general was in the US at the Kennedy School in the 1980s, not 2000, and he gave the commencement address at SOA in 1991, not later. I've made corrections, and added more cites from what appear to be original sources, or at least RS that were contemporary with the events cited, rather than from books or other sources many years after the fact.Parkwells (talk)23:15, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
