Dhol: Common Musical Instrument of Bangladesh

Tuning

[edit]

The dohl is listed atList of percussion insruments astuned percussion, and seems to bepitched percussion but it's an interesting case.

The bass head seems to be tuned to a bass note reflecting thescale used in the music. If this is the case, then it'spitched percussion IMO, even if as it appears the treble head is unpitched.Andrewa (talk)15:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Playing

[edit]

http://tablasitar.net/punjabi-bhagra-dhol-q-a/It is played with two sticks Dagga and Tilli. Dagga is used on the bass side, and a tilli on the treble side. From videos it appears thedagga is a stick with a 90 degree bend close to the beater end, but the flat of the end is used, rather than the tip as with some similar African drumstcks. Thetilli appears straight and again the flat is used, striking also the rim.Andrewa (talk)15:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
