  • Category:History of Portugal: lots to remove there
  • Template:Regions of Portugal: statistical (NUTS3) subregions and intercommunal entities are confused; they arenot the same in all regions, and should be sublisted separately in each region: intermunicipal entities are sometimes larger and split by subregions (e.g. the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has two subregions), some intercommunal entities are containing only parts of subregions. All subregions should be listed explicitly and not assume they are only intermunicipal entities (which accessorily arenot statistic subdivisions but real administrative entities, so they should be listed below, probably using a smaller font: we can safely eliminate the subgrouping by type of intermunicipal entity from this box).

Huh?

[edit]

"The Portuguese Vasco de gama, accompagnied by Nicolau Coelho and Bartolomeu Dias, is the first to reach India by sea. "

The first what? Portuguese, or European? As if it's the latter that would not make much sense -- Eudoxus of Cyzicus, a famous Ancient Greek explorer (European!) crossed the Arabian Sea in 130 BCE, a millennium and a half before de Gama. This really should be clarified. I've also noticed that such early (Antiquity) explorations of Asia have been left out of this, except for the Sino-Roman relations...mike4ty401:02, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eudoxus of Cyzicus should indeed be mentionned. He openned the way for Greek ships sailing from Egypt to India.PHG (talk)04:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It must be mentioned though that Eudoxos came from the Asian Greek city ofCyzicus and was working for the Hellenistic rulers of Egypt. One could therefore say that he was an Asian explorer working for an African country and thus would not belong in this article on European exploration.Takeaway14:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the MoroccanIbn Battuta be removed from this article on European exploration of Asia? Or should this article be renamed to also include people of non European descent who have heavily influenced the European exploration of Asia?—Precedingunsigned comment added byTakeaway (talkcontribs)22:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
