Does anyone here know what caused the riots to occur? --PiMaster3talk02:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article seems a little awkwardly named. Perhaps it should be renamed to2007 Catania riots? I'd do it myself, but I'd like to hear what other more knowledgeable people have to say.theProject08:45, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Still, "riots" would make more sense than "violence." It took me a long time to find this article. -TheMightyQuill22:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Referring to Filippo Raciti, the officer who died near the stadium, Wikipedia affirms, linking an official web page of the Italian Police, he was 40. But here in Italy all the media say he was 38. I think it has to be verified.—The precedingunsigned comment was added by151.44.149.15 (talk)10:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]
There has to be a mention of the incident that happened several days prior to the Catania riots - when Ermanno Licursi, an official of an Itanlian amateur club, was killed during a game (incidentally, the Catania game started with a minute of silence as a tribute to Licursi). But that would require formatting the article, and I'm not too keen on that.Links for reference:http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070203/sp_wl_afp/fblitaviolencehttp://edition.cnn.com/2007/SPORT/football/02/03/italy.violence/index.htmlEven in Italy, 2 football-related deaths in a row is not exactly normal.--Bicycle repairman18:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can anyone clarify this?
The whole football world strongly condemned the events, showing full support for Pancalli's decision to stop all football activities in Italy, and suggested an English-like solution to wipe out football hooliganism in the country.
What is the "English-like solution"? --Doradus15:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
in some of the similarities between what happened at this event and what happened in Pompeii in the year59, so did some research and posted the following:
PrecursorAn early precursor to these events occurred inPompeii in the year59 when a bloody riot broke out between the Pompeiian andNocerian fans following an event in the Pompeiiamphitheater. The EmperorNero and the Imperial government inRome felt forced to intervene and the result was that the city of Pompeii was banned from the giving of such public performances (i.e. games in the amphitheater) for ten years. The games were resumed shortly before the city wasconsumed.[1]An early precursor to these events occurred inPompeii in the year59 when a bloody riot broke out between the Pompeiian andNocerian fans following an event in the Pompeiiamphitheater. That lasted all of half an hour or so and was then edited out as being not appropriate to the article. So, do you all agree with that? I think that draw comparisons between current events and past ones is always relevant. I'm not trying to turn this article into theHistory of violence in sports, but I feel that the above paragraph adds to the article. How do you feel?Carptrash19:18, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well thank youGoochelaar. A very similar thing happened to me atTalk:Phallus when I introduced the conceipt of phallic architecture. It seems that I am rapidly emerging as one of the last remaining original thinkers around. Perhaps I'll collect all these precious moments together, publish them and then I can quote or refer to them. Why not?Carptrash22:03, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I fail to see how this is relevant to the article. There isn't any sort of actual or remotely important connection between the two events; shall we add a note mentioning every instance of sports-related violence in history?Palinurus 21:35, 9 Feb 07 (UTC)

Formal request has been received to merge:Filippo Raciti intoCatania football riot; dated: February 2, 2020. Proposer's rationale:Wikipedia is not a memorial for fallen officers and most of the article's content can fit into the violence article easily.
