Ready for Good Article?

[edit]

I think this article is pretty good now, and comparable to other GA likeIron Man andCaptain America. I think maybe the biography section could be cleaned up and probably some sources could be improved. If anyone notices anything that needs to be brought up to standards, I can try to work on it.Wrangler1981 (talk)16:15, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quick fail. Far too many unsourced paragraphs and sentences.

As you can see you below, the article was quickly rejected because of two many unsourced sentences and paragraphs. This confused me, because I really think we've been pretty assiduous about sourcing. The rejection was done by a bot. It's possible, I think, that the immediate technical rejection is because of the long bibliography section discussed above, which of course has no citations and should not be on Wikipedia. I'm going to come back to this in the future; right now I'm working on another article. We need to figure out how to get this article up to GA standard.Wrangler1981 (talk)00:28, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting "Other versions"

[edit]

The "Other versions" subheading ought to be mostly removed. Most are not mentioned in any sources outside the comics, and so they are trivia more than anything else; including them gives them disproportionate weight. We should follow the model established in theIron Man page.Wrangler1981 (talk)21:44, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is the same as whatHanzoSteel007raised below. The information is included at this page until eitherA. it can be split to its own article, rather than just cutting it and not splitting to make it lost information, orB. it can be cut down with better referencing. Rome was not built in a day. We'll get this article GA status eventually, but it will need work, and cutting information left-and-right is not the way to go about it.Googabbagabba (talk)23:15, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with the "Other versions" section is that it is all pure plot, with no out-of-universe info, and all references are comic books (meaning, primary sources). Wemay eventually fix it, or we may just useTNT. As far as I know, there's not really much out-of-universe stuff to work with, and all alternate Black Panthers are just side characters with minimal impact on the plot of the main stories. The only exception would be the current Ultimate Black Panther, the only one that seems to be a main character and have a dedicated comic, but that wouldn't be enough for a "Other versions" section: the mention it already has in the 2020s section is enough.Cambalachero (talk)02:51, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I have all the major secondary sources on Black Panther, the books and articles. None of them make mention of these other versions. With that said, I will admit that there is some other info in the article at present that relies on primary sources. I am going to go through and replace all of that with secondary sources, as with the other Avengers articles that have received GA status:Iron Man,Captain America,Thor (Marvel Comics),Black Widow (Natasha Romanova). These are the best models for this article.Wrangler1981 (talk)22:34, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have just now replaced primary source references with secondary source references for much of the article, and in some cases I had to delete sentences that I think are noteworthy. I also added a tag to the biography section, which still relies too much on primary source interpretation. I will try to fix this myself soon. We need to follow Wikipedia's emphasis on secondary rather than primary sources, as perWP:PSTS. This is the main reason (although not the only reason) why the alternate versions of Black Panther should not be included in this page.Wrangler1981 (talk)15:50, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Except in that scenario it still should not be cut entirely; this is an encyclopedia to be expanded.Ultimate Black Panther is notable and shouldn't not be not mentioned at all. Where secondary sources need to be mentioned, we tag for expansion and then wefind those sources. That's the job.Googabbagabba (talk)16:33, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But UBP is already mentioned in publication history, 2020s.Cambalachero (talk)19:30, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Collected editions should be deleted

[edit]

It seems the "Collected editions" section should be deleted. I don't think it's encyclopedic; the other Good Articles,Captain America,Spider-Man, andIron Man don't have it.Wrangler1981 (talk)22:43, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Until there is a "List of Black Panther Titles" page, I think removing that section from the page is premature as it becomes lost information.HanzoSteel007 (talk)21:10, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will leave this for now. However, this is not standard for Good Articles on these topics (seeIron Man andCaptain America). I don't believe that Wikipedia has articles on lists of superhero titles.Wrangler1981 (talk)18:39, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have now moved this section to a separate page, modeled on howDaredevil (Marvel Comics character) did it. I think the presence of this section is a major reason why the article failed GA review.Wrangler1981 (talk)14:57, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Black Panther's Quest

[edit]

Some time ago I mentioned in the CBR forums that the fifth season ofAvengers Assemble felt too much like a Black Panther animated series rather than an Avengers one. Someone who claimed to work in the production of the series replied to me that it was actually the idea, but then there was an internal dispute over releasing it as a Black Panther spin-off series or as a fith season; and finally the "fifth season" team got it their way. The forum is of course not a reliable source, and the guy was not a big name to justify quoting him, but has any of this ever been mentioned in other sources?Cambalachero (talk)03:07, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
