History section

[edit]

The history section here should be put into the Balochistan (Pakistan) article because it is only speaking about that area.(precedingunsigned comment byBinsaleemz --Hottentot

Spelling

[edit]

Why must Wikipedia force a nationalist-inspired oddball spelling down our throats every single time? It hurts your credibility. It's Baluchistan. The only context in which the average person might have heard of the place is in "beast of Baluchistan", spelled thus. Are you going to try to make the genus "balochitherium"? You are annoying the hell out of I daresay a lot of us with this nonsense. Ask me why I bother, and I'll say I don't know.

Contradictory Etymology

[edit]

The first, and only, two sentences of the first paragraph under the Etymology heading directly contradict each other. The first states the name of the country, given as Balochistan as well as other forms, derives from the name of the Baloch people. The second maintains exactly the opposite: " . . . it is likely that the Baloch were known by some other name in their place of origin and that they acquired the name "Baloch" only after arriving in Balochistan sometime in the 10th century." Did someone throw this thing together by cutting and pasting from disparate sources, without even reading what he, she, or they was, or were, pasting.Smanion (talk)20:44, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image of the region is preferred

[edit]

The princess of Hope rock formation Las Bela displaying Balochistan physiography. An ethnic map of Pakistan doesn't focus on. The dispute argument is weak as its not a map of 'Balochistan'.

The map of Pakistan is not clearly identifiable in context of Balochistan, the image has to be opened fully and one of the four featured colours are actually related to the Wikipedia article.RevolutionaryPatriot (talk)02:43, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

All wikipedia articles on geographical regions use maps, I don't see why it can't be used here. The map also represented Balochistan perfectly for the readers unfamiliar to it.Sutyarashi (talk)07:58, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Geographical regions on Wikipedia do use images, or both as well. The map represents regions of Pakistan, while Balochistan existed on maps since medieval times. So either find a map that actually has Balochistan as the subject or the article should better be given the image that reflects Balochistan's typical geography, a region that wasnt historically major but distinguished by its terrain.RevolutionaryPatriot (talk)08:06, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Articles on geography do use images in infobox, but along with the maps. Current map is ok, I don't see the need to find new one. If you disagree, you can crop it out and upload it, that will work do.
"Balochistan's typical geography, a region that wasnt historically major but distinguished by its terrain."
I would like to see source for how it is Balochistan's typical geography.Sutyarashi (talk)08:41, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Pakistan government website generalises the province saying "Physically, Balochistan is an extensive plateau of rough terrain divided into basins by ranges of sufficient heights and ruggedness".RevolutionaryPatriot (talk)11:52, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
