Tai Pao, known in Vietnamese sources asTai Hang Tong (Hàng Tổng), is aTai language ofVietnam andLaos. In Laos, it is spoken inKhamkeut District,Pakkading District, andViengthong District ofBolikhamxai Province. Twodialects of Tai Hang Tong are distinguished: Tai Pao andTai Yo.[2]

The Tai Hang Tong inTương Dương,Nghệ An Province preserve a unique script calledLai Pao or Lai Paw. Since 2006, the preservation of Lai Pao script was made possible by conservation works ofMichel Ferlus.[3]
