Tahula (Arabic:تحولا) is a village situated in theSalkhad District ofSuwayda Governorate, in southern Syria. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Tahula had a population of 288 in the 2004 census.[1] Its inhabitants are predominantlyDruze.[2]
In 1596, it appeared in theOttomantax registers asTahula (dir nazd Nawas al-Laja), as part of thenahiya (subdistrict) ofBani Malik as-Sadir, in theHauran Sanjak. It had an entirelyMuslim population consisting of 37 households and 15 bachelors. They paid a fixed tax-rate of 40% on agricultural products, including wheat (1800 a.), barley (900 a.), goats and beehives (200 a.), in addition to "occasional revenues" (50 a.); the taxes totaled 3,000akçe.[3]
in 1838,Eli Smith noted it asTehuleh, a ruin located east ofSalkhad.[4]
