Syros Island National Airport (Greek:Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Σύρου)[2] (IATA:JSY,ICAO:LGSO) is anairport servingSyros Island inGreece. It is also known asSyros National Airport "Demetrius Vikelas"[3] (Greek:Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Σύρου "Δημήτριος Βικέλας"[4]), named forDemetrius Vikelas (1835–1908), a Greek businessman and writer born inErmoupoli on the island of Syros.The airport was opened in 1991.Syros is part of theCyclades island group in theAegean Sea, located 78 nautical miles (144 km) southeast ofAthens.
The airport is at anelevation of 236 feet (72 m) abovemean sea level. It has onerunway designated 18/36 with anasphalt surface measuring 1,080 by 30 metres (3,543 ft × 98 ft).
