Symphony (Ran)

TheSymphony is asymphony fororchestra by the Israeli-American composerShulamit Ran. The work was commissioned by thePhiladelphia Orchestra under the direction ofRiccardo Muti in 1987 and was given its world premiere on October 19, 1990.[1] The piece was awarded the 1991Pulitzer Prize for Music and took the first placeKennedy CenterFriedheim Award that same year.[2][3][4] It was composed in a primarilyatonal style.[1][4]
