39°42′54″N22°43′58″E / 39.715126°N 22.73288°E /39.715126; 22.73288Sycurium orSyk[o]yrion (Ancient Greek:Συκ[ο]ύριον) was a town ofancient Thessaly in the district ofPelasgiotis, at the foot ofMount Ossa.[1][2]Livy writes that during theThird Macedonian War,Perseus of Macedon encamped at Sycurium, between Mount Ossa and the lowerPeneus; it overlooked the plains of Thessaly and was not far fromLarissa.[2]
Its location is near the modern village ofNeromylo Agias (or Neromyli).[3][4] Archaeology has revealed anacropolis with 5th century BCE fortifications and nodefensive wall of the lower town.[5]
