Sybrin is a software company headquartered inJohannesburg,South Africa that sells enterprise software and services to thefinancial services,insurance, andtelecommunications industries. Sybrin implemented the firstcheque truncation system in Africa, the third in the world, inMalawi.[5]

The company offers alow-code platform[6] along with other prebuilt solutions in their digital banking and payments as well as their intelligent automation product range. These include Payments Hub, KYC and AML, Intelligent Document Processing, Liveness Detection, Digital Onboarding, and more.

Sybrin’s clients include corporates, insurance companies, telecommunication service providers, banking institutions, as well ascentral banks and nationalAutomated Clearing Houses.[7]

Sybrin has key support offices inKenya,Mozambique,Tanzania,United Kingdom,Zambia, andZimbabwe.[8][9] Sybrin’s systems have been implemented inBotswana,Egypt,Eswatini,Ghana,Gibraltar,Isle of Man,Kenya,Kuwait,Lesotho,Malawi,Mauritius,Mozambique,Nigeria,Philippines,Rwanda,Seychelles,South Africa,Tanzania,Uganda,United Kingdom,Zambia, andZimbabwe.[3][10]

Sybrin has more than 600 software installations in 21 countries[2] and a staff complement of 200.[11] The company attained the Microsoft Line of Business Award[3] and has been accredited as an Oracle Platinum Partner.[12]

History

  • Founded in 1991,[13][14][15] Sybrin shifted its operational headquarters toJohannesburg,South Africa in 2002.
  • In 2003, Sybrin obtained the contract for the implementation of the firstcheque truncation system in Africa, the third in the world, which was implemented inMalawi.[5]
  • In 2005, Sybrin opened a support office inKenya.[16][17]
  • In 2012, Sybrin opened support offices in Zambia and Tanzania.[18]
  • On 13 October 2013, Sybrin was acquired by EOH, amultinationaltechnology company listed on theJohannesburg Stock Exchange with over 11 000 employees.[19][20][21]
  • In 2020, Sybrin partnered with the Mojaloop Foundation to advance financial inclusion in Africa[22] and expanded their markets through strategic partnerships with various other organisations, including: Blisslead, Console, eBizolutions, Insight SCS, Legal Workflow, Nybble, OpenTech Kenya, Quetri,[23] and Software People.
  • In 2021, One Thousand & One Voices (1K1V), a private equity fund the limited partners of which consist exclusively of industry-leading families, in partnership with diversified FinTech investment holding companyCrossfin Technology Holdings (Crossfin) and investor Isaac Mophatlane, acquired the Sybrin Group of Companies (Sybrin) for R410 million.[24]
