Switzerland boycotted the1956 Summer Olympics inMelbourne,Australia because of the participation of theSoviet Union, who had invadedHungary to crush theHungarian Revolution of 1956. However, theequestrian events were held inStockholm,Sweden earlier in the year because of the Australian quarantine laws. The Swiss team competed in Stockholm, winning a bronze medal.
