Swelldom Building, also known asSun Drug Company Building,[2] is a historic three-story building located at 559 S.Broadway and 305 W.6th Street in theJewelry District andBroadway Theater District in thehistoric core ofdowntown Los Angeles.
Swelldom Building was built in 1920 withDavis & Davis andHenry F. Withey as architects.[2]Swelldom moved into the building that same year.[3]
In 1979, theBroadway Theater and Commercial District was added to theNational Register of Historic Places, with Swelldom Building listed as acontributing property in the district.[1]
Swelldom Building features anItalian Renaissance design and was built withreinforced concrete and a glazedterra cottafacade. The building originally had acast iron rooftrim, but it has since been removed.[1]Bays are used to define the building's repeating architectural elements.[4]
