TheSustained Spheromak Physics Experiment (SSPX) is a program atLawrence Livermore National Laboratory in theUnited States established to investigatespheromakplasma.[1]
A spheromak device produces a plasma inmagnetohydrodynamic equilibrium mainly through self-induced plasmacurrents, as opposed to atokamak device which depends on large externally generated magnetic fields.[2] The series of experiments examines the potential for a spheromak device to containfusion fuel.
