Sunpu jōdai

Sunpu jōdai (駿府城代) were officials of theTokugawa shogunate with responsibility for holding and defendingSunpu Castle (Sunpu-jō), also called Shizuoka Castle.[1]

Appointments to the prominent office of castle warden atSunpu Domain were exclusivelyfudai daimyōs.[2] Conventional interpretations have construed this Japanese titles as "commissioner" or "overseer" or "governor".
