Suhopolje is asettlement and an eponymousmunicipality inSlavonia,Croatia.
It is located on the northern slopes of theBilogora mountain in the region ofPodravina, 10 km southeast ofVirovitica; elevation 118 m.
In the 2011 census, the total population of the Suhopolje municipality was 6,683, with 2,696 people in Suhopolje itself and the rest in a number of surrounding villages:[3]
Colonist settlements of Nova Cabuna, Gaćište (Kačište), Novo Obilićevo, and Žirostanj were established on the territory of the municipality ofCabuna and colonies ofČemernica, Međugorje, Ovčara, Pepelana, and Suhopolje in the territory of the town municipality during theland reform in interwar Yugoslavia.[4]
Directly elected minority councils and representatives are tasked with consulting tasks for the local or regional authorities in which they are advocating for minority rights and interests, integration into public life and participation in the management of local affairs.[5] At the2023 Croatian national minorities councils and representatives electionsSerbs of Croatia fulfilled legal requirements to elect 10 members minority councils of the Municipality of Suhopolje.[6]
