Sugarloaf Mountain is a 900-foot (270 m) peak located in thetown ofFishkill near theHudson River andBreakneck Ridge. One of several similarly named mountains in the U.S. state ofNew York,[2] it is part of theHudson Highlands, located entirely withinHudson Highlands State Park.
It can be climbed via theWilkinson Memorial Trail, which has its westerntrailhead a mile (1.6 km) from the summit onNew York State Route 9D along theHudson River, opposite theBreakneck Ridge station onMetro-North Railroad'sHudson Line. The trail climbs gently at first but then steeply as it approaches the summit plateau. At either end there are panoramic views over the river'sNewburgh Bay, surrounding mountains and nearby communities.[3]
