TheSudbury–White River train, formerly theLake Superior, informally called theBudd Car, is a Canadian passenger train operated byVia Rail serving communities betweenSudbury andWhite River, Ontario, three times a week.[1][2] The timetable numbers for this train are 185 for the westbound (Sudbury–White River) and 186 for the eastbound (White River–Sudbury).

The train providesflag stop service to many remote locations accessible only by rail on theCanadian Pacific Kansas City mainline inNorthern Ontario. Stops on the line includeAmyot, Swanson,Franz,Lochalsh,Missanabie,Dalton,Nicholson,Chapleau,Nemegos,Kormak,Sultan,Biscotasing,Metagama andBenny.

The typical equipment used on this route isBudd Rail Diesel Car using a RDC-2 and RDC-4, with an extra car added when required, typically on theVictoria Day weekend.

The line figures in 2015 television series on the UK'sChannel Five -Chris TarrantExtreme Railways.[3] It is also featured in episode 8 of theTVO seriesTripping, with a full three-hour documentary available online in 4K.[4]

While train services were disrupted due to theCOVID-19 pandemic in Canada, they returned to the normal three trains per week schedule in June 2022.[5]
