Stuart Michael Schmidt, Jr. is an American politician. He is a member of theMaryland House of Delegates forDistrict 33B inAnne Arundel County, Maryland.[1]

Background

Schmidt was born inAnne Arundel County, Maryland.[2] He grew up playing sports in the Harundale Youth Sports League[3] and graduated fromGlen Burnie High School in 1998.[4] Schmidt later attendedSalisbury University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree, and theUniversity of Baltimore, where he received his Master of Business Administration degree.[5] He operates his own realty business, called Schmidt Home Consultants (aKeller Williams Realty independent franchise).[5][6]

In 2022, Schmidt filed to run for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 33, later being redrawn into District 33B.[7] He won the Republican primary on July 19, 2022, receiving 70.4 percent of the vote,[8] and later won the general election on November 8.[1]

In the legislature

Schmidt was sworn into the Maryland House of Delegates on January 11, 2023.[2] He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee.[9]

Schmidt was selected for the Future Caucus Innovation Fellowship for the 2024 Strengthening Democracy cohort and the 2025-2026 Civic Innovation cohort, a bipartisan cohort of lawmakers committed to improving civic engagement and democratic processes.[10][11]

Personal life

Schmidt is married to his wife, Michele. Together, they have one child and live inCrofton, Maryland.[5]
