Stuart Brisley (born 1933) is a British artist.[2]
Brisley studied atGuildford School of Art from 1949 to 1954 and at theRoyal College of Art from 1956 to 1959. In 1959–60 he attended theAkademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Germany, and from 1960 to 1962 studied atFlorida State University inTallahassee,Florida, in the United States.[2]

In 1968 he took part in theoccupation ofHornsey College of Art by staff and students, the "Hornsey sit-in".[3]
From the 1960s and to the early 1980s he was active as aperformance artist; his works were inspired byMarxist political ideas, and frequently used extended duration as an aspect of the performance.[2][3] In the 1980s he turned tosculpture andinstallation art.[2]
After a long academic career,[3] Brisley is aProfessor Emeritus of theSlade School of Fine Art.[4]
