Steve Levine is aBritishrecord producer, best known for his work onCulture Club's studio albums.[1] He won aBrit Award for Producer of the Year in 1984.[2] He has also composed film and TV scores.

Levine's career began as a trainee tape-op at CBS studios in 1975, soon progressed to in house engineer, working with many new wave and punk acts includingthe Clash,the Jags,XTC and many of CBS Records' pop acts, includingSailor.
It was at CBS that Levine met Beach BoyBruce Johnston, who would play an important role in the consolidation of his production career,[citation needed] culminating with Levine producing the 1985 albumThe Beach Boys. From the early 1980s, with the worldwide success of Culture Club, Levine's reputation grew and, apart from the Beach Boys, he produced work forthe Honeyz,John Howard,China Crisis,Motörhead,Ziggy Marley,Westworld andGary Moore. In 2013, Levine was chairman of theMusic Producer's Guild.[citation needed]
Levine created and co-presents theBBC Radio 2 andBBC Radio 6 Music programmeThe Record Producers,[3] with regular BBC Radio 2 hostRichard Allinson. This series of documentaries analyse, from the record producer's perspective, how iconic recordings are created.
Levine has collected several prestigious awards including aBrit Award for Producer of the Year in 1984.[2] Levine is also aLIPA companion[citation needed] and holds an Honorary Doctorate atBucks University.[citation needed] He is the author ofThe Hit Kit andThe Art of Downloading Music.[citation needed]
Levine is the owner of label Hubris Records Limited and has produced artists for the label includingDaytona Lights,Natalie McCool and Hushtones.
Levine and his wife, radio producer and talent manager Karen, have two daughters. They live in Liverpool. His daughter also works in the music industry and resides in London.[citation needed]
